Description

Enjoy a glass of wine as you wind down the river at Wine Down. This 1924 cottage with old world charm, wood floors, custom cedar counter and walls of windows, invites relaxation and creativity! Both the kitchen and living area overlook the ever-changing Russian River. Morning brings sunlight and in the evening a gas fireplace adds warmth and a cozy glow.

The kitchen is open to the dining and living areas so friends and family can gather to laugh and chat while cooking. Dine inside or out as weather permits. A new hot tub joins the outdoor dining area on the main deck overlooking the river.

Amble down one level to the outdoor shower and laundry room. There's a staircase from the lowest level of the fern and thimbleberry-filled yard to the river in the summer months. Depending on the season, you'll have a shallow and gentle stretch of river and a long, wild, sandy (seasonal) island or playful and frisky Russian River for paddling and swimming. Merganser and Mallard ducklings bob and scoot about, swallows circle and a reclusive green heron darts past in this paradise for birds.

Bedrooms feature award-winning Casper Cal King mattresses and the living room has ample and comfortable seating for your retreat.

A half mile down the road is Monte Rio which features beaches and (seasonal) kayak rentals. Duncan's Mills is three miles west with shops, restaurants and a post office. Jenner by the sea waits ten miles away at the Pacific Ocean.

Know Before You Book:

Maximum Occupancy and Quiet Hours: The maximum occupancy at Wine Down is 6. Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm until 7:00 am. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited at any time.

A Note About Our Cleaning Fees:
Thank you for supporting our local business! When you stay with us, you are supporting local families at work. We think everyone deserves a decent living wage, and we make sure to set the rates and fees so that our cleaners and employees earn a living wage in beautiful Sonoma County. The cleaning fee goes directly to the cleaners and inspectors for their hard work in making sure our guests have a wonderful and welcoming space to call home for their stay.

Parking: The parking deck accommodates 2 cars. RVs, trailers and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.

Bed Sizes: First Bedroom: California King Bed; Second Bedroom: California King Bed; Living Room: Single Day Bed; Queen Sofabed.

Heat Source: Gas fireplace & electric wall heaters.

A/C: The house does not have air conditioning. Being near the coast, the night time temps drop and just opening some windows is usually enough to cool the house.

Stairs: There are two steps from the parking area to the house. There are exterior stairs to the outdoor shower, laundry room and river overlook. Seasonal stairs to the river.

River Access: There's a staircase from the lowest level of the yard to the river in the summer months.

Docks & Boats: Docks and beaches are seasonal and only available from mid-June to mid-September providing the summer dams are in. The river is usually too swift for boating in the winter and many docks and beaches are under water until late spring.

We - three adults and a dog, stayed at this cabin for two nights. It feels cozy and you can tell that the owner of the cabin stays here often as well as most of the supplies are good brand name products/in great condition. We loved the hot tub, especially on our checkout day it was misty and foggy, soaking in the tub was like a dream. The location was beautiful, the dock is next to a natural little island. The river area was not very crowded and was close to town, but secluded. The Monte Rio town is very small and not much was available or open. there is only a little market & ice cream shop. There was no cell reception, at the house, which worked fine for us mostly, as it made it more of an excuse to disconnect. There were kayaks provided, but are hard to get up & down the steep stairs. The house is small, the furniture well-used, and the items in the kitchen plentiful. The house is dog friendly, which was one of the reasons we booked it. There were dog bowls & even a dog bed provided. Our kids shared one king bed, in the room with the TV. The other sleeping options were not great. The rooms are small, as is the bathroom, but we didn't need a grand space for a long weekend. My husband's favorite amenities were the outdoor shower to rinse off the dogs, and our feet, the towel warmer, and the heated toilet seat.-via Airbnb

A very cute little cabin, perfectly situated on the Russian River with river access. There's a great island right down the hill that we hung out on all day. Water was running a bit too strong to go swimming, but can imagine it'd be perfect in late summer.-via Vrbo

Cute, cozy cabin right on the Russian River. We enjoyed our stay over the New Year's holiday weekend in this comfortable home. Has a nice little kitchen that was perfect for our needs, and the large dining table was great for our family to gather around for meals and to play board games. We loved the hot tub on the deck where we enjoyed the rain while watching the river and wildlife. Beautiful spot! The only downside was the road is a bit busy with nowhere to really walk which made it difficult to walk our dog but otherwise, it was the perfect getaway spot!-via VRBO

We enjoyed our stay at the River! The hot tub and river were truly incredible. We saw lots of birds, great blue herons and even some river otters playing which was a real treat! Being tucked into the redwoods is so beautiful. We know this is mostly a summer community, so in December the neighborhood was pretty quiet. The gas fireplace is so nice and warm and easy to use. Loved the holiday décor they had set up to add to the cozy vibes! It was easy to get to, and the local market is right down the street. It’s a very comfy home, the hot tub was a hit for our family as the weather was a bit chilly. We loved that it was dog friendly and we had easy access to the River, which we hope to take advantage of again during the summer months and use the kayaks and swim. The neighbors were friendly and the street was quiet. Our only suggestion would be that it might be time to replace the mattress in the 1st bedroom. We loved Wine Down! There was a maintenance issue the week before our stay and River Homes offered to switch our spot to another one free of charge. Thankfully the issue was resolved before our booking so we we able to stay here. We loved it! Hot tub and deck was great. Loved using the kayaks. Cons: Although advertised as a two bedroom place which can accommodate 4, it is very small. No closet space in the 2 small bedrooms for clothes and personal items. Pros: It is along the river which is a getting farther out due to the drought.-via Airbnb

This was a lovely location and a beautiful house…very comfortable with a wonderful view. We enjoyed sitting in the hot tub after a day of sightseeing. Just an FYI….be careful of the path that goes to the river as there is a 10 foot drop off from the end of the stairs to the river. Nice locations and very nice river view because it's by the river -- we will be back for sure! We booked this place for a weekend vacation. Our vacation style is always spending time in the house and only visit nearby surroundings. This house is so perfect for this. The house itself is very clean, truely very well stocked kitchen(pots, pans, well stock pantry too) that we can feed ourselves well. Since it's by the river, just spending the time in the house feels great. we enjoyed the river view throughout the day. We love there is a small market really just 3 or 5 mins drive from the house and it opens early to very late where you can find all the basic groceries. One other thing I want to highlight and call out our appreciation is -- The communication from the host team is amazing. one morning our smoke detector just went wrong and it kept beeping. I sent message and called, their communication and the way they were trying to help is amazing, warm, and proactive. Not to mentioned prior to the trip, they also have been so patiently and quickly respond to our questions. We really appreciate it. We will be back! this time since it's winter/spring, we don't have any river access. hope next time we can experience that. -via AirBnB

My husband and I loved our stay at the historical Wine Down. The home is so comfortable and we had fun enjoying the amenities: sipping wine by the fire place; enjoying coffee on the deck and bird watching; and exploring the culinary delights of the local towns. It rained our whole stay but we enjoyed sheltering inside this cozy retreat for several days. Love that they think of placing hand sanitizer and air purifiers in every room. Will definitely come back the next time we want to wine down and get away from the Bay Area.

The Perfect Getaway

After a long year of Covid, My mom and I decided to escape to the Sonoma Coast for a week of relaxation and vacation.This house was absolutely perfect for relaxation, between the hot tub and lounging on the patio it was a peaceful stay.We are already planning our return to this house for a future vacation. It is very close to the adorable town of Duncan Mills, which has a delight cafe, and some very cute shops.

This was such an amazing get away! The home feels cozy and spacious at the same time! It warms up quickly and nicely with the gas fire place. Wonderful views from the dining room and deck of the Russian River. Great for bird watching, too. The location is really convenient, too - close to Monte Rio's center and the bridge. I highly recommend this place and would love to stay here again.

Our stay at the Wine Down was a delightful success. The house itself is wonderfully laid out, quite spacious and well furnished. We thought that the homeowner did a great job providing tenants with interesting gadgets (the bidet was fascinating) and good board games for us to enjoy. Access to the River was right there, it was a good touch having the outside shower for our use as well. We are River Rats and spent a majority of our time when not wine tasting in the river floating .

This was a lovely stay -- easy access to Armstrong Woods for hiking, to Guerneville and Occidental for shopping and good restaurants/ cafes . The hosts have shared a lot of tips about the area -- especially good, since internet access is very slow. The kitchen is especially well equipped -- even two packages of margarita salt and sea salt for those of us who are inclined to need these items! The fireplace is cozy on rainy days and the view from the living room is peaceful. (Weather didn't allow us to sit on the deck but that would have been great.)via AirBnB

This was a very comfortable and cozy cabin for my husband, son and granddaughter. The location was convenient for visiting Occidental, Guerneville, Bodega Bay and for them to go horseback riding. The cabin is well designed with comfortable living area, the kitchen is very well stocked and all the appliances have been thoughtfully provided. We prepared a small Thanksgiving dinner with no problem -- and there were lots of wine glasses to accommodate our "wineing down". We didn't get to experience the outdoors because it was cold and then rainy but the cabin is warmed with space heaters and the gas fireplace provided some heat and charm as well. The staff at RiversHomes was responsive to our needs. We would definitely return

We very much enjoyed a relaxing weekend at this beautiful home. The space was impeccably clean, and we were provided with all the necessities to make our stay comfortable. We LOVED being able to sit in the spa on the deck, watching the sun break through the fog over the trees and listening to the ducks on the river below us. Guerneville and Occidental are two nearby towns that were super fun to explore, and when we weren't out exploring, we couldn't have asked for a cozier space to relax in. The touches throughout this house made it our favorite vacation house so far. From the 'spare wine' in the rack to every utensil you might need to cook with, they thought of everything! The two bedrooms are lovely and cozy. The living room had something for everyone. The deck is fantastic. The hot tub was a fabulous touch. And we so appreciated the kayaks and paddle board. What a lovely surprise to have toys to play with on the river. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home. We were a three person family and one set of grandparents. My friends and I had a lovely, relaxing time at this house. Hot-tubbing in the rain, hanging out by the fire, cooking. This space is very comfortable, clean, and well set up for guests. For instance, many rentals have old scratched up pots and pans but this one actually had lots of decent stuff to cook a good meal with. The beds were really comfy and the home was nicely furnished. There were 3 of us but I could see it being comfortable with up to 5 (if people are sharing beds). It's also a nice short walk to groceries and some restaurants as well as the beach and an easy drive to Guerneville and Armstrong Woods or the coast. Check in/check out were easy as well as communication with hosts.-Airbnb Guest-

We stayed at wine down for 4 nights, with my husband and two kids. The house is beautiful with a lovely view of the river. We enjoyed spending evenings at the river and mornings and nights on the deck overlooking the trees and river. House is very well equipped and very comfortable. Wonderful spot, private beach

My wife and visit the Russian River at least a few times a year. This place is one of the nicest. Well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, a private hot tub. You could not ask for more. Access to the beach was a litte dicey, as it required the use of a ladder to get down a small, 6 foot cliff. It looks like the last stairs were washed out and await repair. All worth it to have a large, empty beach, and river access to yourselves. We will return. Its an incredible value.-Thank you so much for staying with us! We are so glad that you enjoyed Wine Down! Wine down was just what we were looking for. A darling place on the river. Birds singing, river flowing and a cute as a button little cabin with a kitchen loaded with cooking needs. We ate in every night, as we were happy to be there and we were there for a week! Very comfy and cozy. Only draw back was that the road could get a bit busy and noisy. We will be back.

We stayed here with another couple and found the place to be accommodating both in terms of size and amenities. The kitchen is well-stocked and boasts quality knives — a rarity in most rentals. We enjoyed just about every square inch of the property, inside and out. The highlights, without a doubt, were dining on the sun-soaked patio and sipping rosé in the hot tub, which overlooks the river. If I were the owner, I wouldn't change a thing! We'll be back!-Airbnb

This was a surprise birthday getaway for my fiancé, and we were both so impressed with the place. Spacious and cozy, our 13 year-old pup really enjoyed the fireplace in the evenings. A clean place with a lovely tranquil view that you can enjoy while in the hot tub. We definitely hope to be back again!

Stayed for a long weekend. We came with 4 people and a dog. There was plenty of room for all. Access to the river was easy. The house is clean and comfortable and well appointed. It had everything we needed. We mostly ate in, but it is close enough to town if you wanted to eat out. All of the trees around are amazing....so relaxing. Also help to keep the house cool in the summer. We came up during a heat wave and were perfectly comfortable. I hope to return again soon!

Booked for a long weekend for our family of 4, and the house was perfect. They have created a lovely relaxing place with plenty of light, home comforts, a large deck and direct river access. Stayed here for an wonderful girls weekend. The house is perfect for a long weekend with friends or family. Totally spotless, shabby chic vibes, cozy fireplace, river access, and hot-tubing under the stars, huge deck, at a great price compared with a lot of the other cabins. Booking it again for a winter weekend.

Dream Getaway!

La Sonrisa was the perfect getaway for me and my girlfriends. We relaxed on the beautiful deck overlooking the river, soaked in the tub, sunned on the island, and lazed in the comfort of the cozy cottage. In the mornings we awoke to sun streaming in and birdsong. The cottage was close to wonderful restaurants, an amazing spa (Osmosis), and only ten minutes from the coast.
