Description

Seventeen Sequoias is a hidden oasis on Austin Creek. A gardener's sanctuary with an orchard of more than a dozen mature fruit trees including multiple types of apples, three kinds of plums, an Asian pear apple, D'Anjou pear, figs, peach, persimmons, quince and kiwi vines - as well as an area of raised garden beds and an abundance of blackberries. Flowering bulbs, hydrangeas, and extensive succulent gardens mingle between the 17+ ancient redwood trees including several fairy rings. Garden paths wind amid the plantings and natives that also host hummingbirds, butterflies and other wildlife. Explore and experience this 1 acre property as it transforms through the seasons. In fair weather, bring your water wings, floaties, and water shoes to float or walk in the creek - skipping stones and, if you're lucky, watching otters!

Your retreat at Seventeen Sequoias extends into the recently remodeled house as a place to relax and recharge any time of year. Play board games in front of the living room fireplace or catch up on movies, snuggling on the extra-long leather sofa and comfy chairs. The refreshed kitchen boasts a fantastic amount of counter space, cabinets well-stocked with pots, pans and kitchen tools, and stainless steel appliances including a Jenn-Air range. You may not want to leave to explore the excellent restaurants in Duncan's Mills or nearby Jenner, but if you do, you'll love returning to Seventeen Sequoias!

Adjacent to the spacious master bedroom is the custom built bathroom. The shower is tiled with cut river rock, ceramic and glass tiles. While we hope you don't need it, the second bedroom doubles as a home office. Fold the Queen Murphy bed up and out of the way, plug in your laptop and get some work done and go back to playing! Lastly, in a creative turn, the laundry room is also a sleeping nook! A single twin bed cozies in with a privacy curtain.

Know Before You Book:

Maximum Occupancy and Quiet Hours:
The maximum occupancy at Seventeen Sequoias is 6 people. Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm until 7:00 am. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited at any time.

Parking:
There is parking for 3 cars in gravel-lined parking spots in the front yard. Street parking is scarce. RVs, trailers and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.

Bed Sizes:
First bedroom: Queen bed; Second bedroom: Queen Murphy bed; Laundry room/bedroom: Twin bed

Heat Source:
This house has central heat and a wood-burning fireplace. While there is often firewood at the property, it is not promised. We recommend bringing your own or checking at the property before purchasing wood.

A/C: The house does not have air conditioning. Being near the coast, the night time temps drop and just opening some windows is usually enough to cool the house

Stairs:
There are two sets of stairs at the house: 6 steps from the closest parking spot to the front door and 7 steps from the back door to the yard. The house is all one level once inside.

Work from HERE:
In the 2nd bedroom (the one with the Murphy bed), you'll find a sit/stand desk, Herman Miller Aeron chair, external monitor, keyboard, and laptop stand.
Advertised Wifi Speed: 175 mbps download; 5 MB/s upload

EV Charger: The house has a 220v electrical outlet in the driveway for electric vehicle charging. Guests need to provide their own charging cable. Please charge vehicles between the hours of midnight and 3pm.

Austin Creek Access:
This seasonal creek runs most of the year, but drought or storm conditions impact creek access and water levels. The water level in the creek changes quickly and it is difficult to predict what the water level will be for any specific time period.

Fencing:
The property is fully fenced with a gate at the main driveway entrance and a second gate separating the front and back yards for two fully fenced yard areas.

Road to Seventeen Sequoias:
Austin Creek Road is narrow and winding in spots - please heed the speed limit. The house is off a well-marked private road and we provide excellent written driving directions to confirmed guests.

Proximity to Wineries:
There are several tasting rooms in Guerneville approx. 8 miles from the house.

Nearest River Beach:
In the summer guests can pay a day use fee at Casini Ranch (approx. 3.5 mi) or go to the Monte Rio Public Beach (approx. 4.3 mi).

Nearest Ocean Beach:
The coastal beaches in Jenner are approx. 7.5 mi.

Our family of 3 plus 1 outstanding dog had such a wonderful stay at Seventeen Sequoias cabin in the Redwoods. Such a cute cabin with a stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, and a warm and inviting living room with cozy blankets. The back yard stretches through sunshine and redwood tree shade down to Austin Creek, perfect for frisbee, skipping rocks, and just chilling by the creek. A perfect, nourishing little weekend getaway!

Hello Jason, We are so glad the entire family enjoyed Seventeen Sequoias together! It is a truly lovely parcel in Cazdero and we are thrilled you found it as relaxing as others. Thank you for the wonderful review and for being amazing guests :)

This place was exactly what we were looking for! We were looking for a place to relax, enjoy the nature, and do some cooking. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need and more. The cabin is super cozy, had instructions everywhere, and everything was super clean. It's very safe for kids, we had our 9-month-old with us and he had a lot of space to crawl around (always supervised). Crib/High Chair is not available on-site, but you can request it and pick it up for an extra fee. We decided to bring our own. Our dog loved the outdoor space, especially the creek. The only complaint that we had is that the bed in the main bedroom was very uncomfortable, and made a lot of noise anytime you moved, to the point that we took turns sleeping in the couch. Other than that, this place was a dream come true.-via Airbnb

Manager's Response

Hello Luciana, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We appreciate your feedback and are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay overall. We are surprised to hear that you had an issue with the bed, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We have notified our maintenance team and they will be looking into the matter. If you ever need any assistance or have any concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us by phone or email. We would have loved to help during your stay and want to ensure that you have the best experience possible! Thank you again for your review, and we hope to have the opportunity to host you again in the future.

My family and I had an incredible time celebrating a 60th birthday at this property. We always love the Guerneville/Cazadero area but I was surprised how large and lush and beautiful the fenced area/garden was (AMAZING with a dog) and the ease of creek access. We were very comfortable. The fireplace was super cozy on a somewhat rainy weekend, and we played board games, watched a movie, went for a hike nearby (dog specific towels MUCH appreciated for that) made some good meals in the large and super well outfitted kitchen, and just generally relaxed. The only slight discomfort we had was with the Murphy bed (it works easily but is pretty creaky which makes it hard for 2 people to sleep there together unless both are heavy sleepers) but after the first night my husband went and slept on the couch which was wonderful. Easy check in, good instructions, everything clean and working. Awesome spot!!-via Airbnb

This was a lovely place to stay. We enjoyed the amenities. Could not ask for anything more. Seems everything was furnished. The owners have some expensive things in the house. Our week was expensive. Many drawers were locked. Guess they did not want people stealing whatever was in those locked drawers...even after paying a lot of money to stay there for a week. Not trusting type owners.-via Vrbo

Manager's Response

Hello Dorothy, We are sorry to hear you were disappointed with the pricing as well as the locked areas. There are only a few different locked cabinets/drawers in the home. It is not because owners do not trust guests. These locked areas are for the cleaners' supplies when they come after guests to restock the home and get it guest-ready! Overall we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your understanding :)

Oh we had the absolute best time! The house is well-stocked and situated on the most magical little lot…there are houses on either side but you really can’t see of hear anyone. We loved our daily exploration of the trees and the yard and the surprisingly gorgeous little creek…it was wonderful having so many areas for our kids and dog to safely play! We did have a few minor issues with housekeeping (none of them dealbreakers)…we found quite a few items left behind by the previous guests, and some of the dishes needed washing before use. The fireplace was also not functional during our stay, but we had a blast out at the fire pit in the evenings. Goat Rock beach is less than 20 minutes away, Duncan Mills about 5 minutes, and 15 minutes back to Guerneville or Armstrong Woods. Seventeen Sequoias was so relaxing and memorable, we really didn’t want to leave. The kids are already planning next year’s trip!

Manager's Response

Hello Kyle, We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! Thank you for reaching out to us about the concerns/issues you had with the cleaning. We do appreciate being notified immediately and apologize if anything was missed. House was very clean and inviting. The kitchen was the best and exceeded expectations - very well stocked with oils, spices, cooking utensils, etc. made for enjoyable cooking and feasting amongst friends. The beds were very comfortable. Only slight issue was it took a long time to heat up the house. The yard was also very nice with apple and quince trees. Highly recommended!!-via Airbnb

Manager's Response

Hello Lan, We are glad you felt at home and cozy! We are sorry to hear about the heating-At Seventeen Sequoias there are a few ways to heat the home. There is fireplace and firewood is provided. As well as central heating, and space heaters to help as well. In this area you would have to start a fire before it gets colder to ensure the house heats and retains the heat, it gets chilly under the trees! Thank you for being fantastic guests! Would would love to host you again :)

If you are still considering this Cazadero home, please just book it now! This property was truly more than we could have ever hoped for. The yards had so many surprises. That it was fully fenced and secure for the dogs was the ultimate highlight of the trip. The dogs loved it maybe even more than we did! Also, ZERO POISON OAK! What a find in poison oak country! The house was well-appointed with every amenity labeled and easy to find. We were so appreciative for the wifi and the tv options. The washer/dryer got some use as did the dishwasher. If you are looking for a relaxing atmosphere in the woods with all of the comforts of home, this is the place for you! Safeway wasn't far away and a good bakery is 3 miles up the road in Duncan Mills. To be perfectly honest, we hardly left because we didn't want to. Thanks for the stay!-via Airbnb

This was the perfect place for us to unwind and recharge at the start of the New Year! We were thrilled that we could bring our dogs with us and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Seventeen Sequoias! The fully fenced 1+ acre outdoor space is so beautiful!!! Even though it rained almost every day we were there, we still loved meandering around the trails and listening to the creek rushing by. It must be even more wonderful to stay here in Spring, when the garden is blooming and the weather is sunny! It is a very beautiful yard/garden, wild and lush with an orchard and, yes, 17 Sequoias! I'm not sure who loved the garden more, us or our dogs! The kitchen is fabulous, very large and incredibly well stocked! The entire house is lovely and very comfortable, and the neighborhood is extremely quiet and peaceful. We especially enjoyed cozying up next to the wood burning stove every evening after a wet and muddy day of hiking! We love the Russian River area and visit at least once a year. The location of Seventeen Sequoias was perfect as it is close to all the places we enjoy hiking, both on the Coast and further inland.. Highly recommend this vacation rental!

We fell in love with the area and we go back to Cazadero for 10 years. Not sure how we could miss such a jewel of cabin until this year. Is silly who invented the 5 stars rating. The stars you can see in the sky of Cazadero in a clear night is how we want to rate Seventeen Sequoias! We enjoyed every minute spent and we were enchanted by all the little details of the garden, the smell of apples and pears in the morning and late evenings. The dogs could not stop exploring. The cabin is charming, clean and kitchen well equipped. Dogs and humans left this beautiful place sulking... where the 10 days have gone? We cannot wait for next year. We also want to thank Russian River Homes and the owners for giving us the chance to forget about everything while there.

Lovely house with spacious yard. Three outdoor dining areas, plus seats on the front porch, plus chairs around a fire circle, so there are many areas to enjoy the redwoods and sweet-smelling flowers. The kitchen is well-supplied and beautifully labeled so we could find everything. One main bedroom, one office with a murphy bed, and one twin bed in a nook off the kitchen. It's curtained off from the laundry area, but not nearly as odd as that sounds.House was impeccably clean, instructions and contact were thorough.

Perfect place to unwind from the city

It was a much needed relief from current life in the city. We were a family of 3, including a toddler. The house is very cute, cozy, and had plenty of space for the three of us and everything we needed. We cooked a lot given the current situation and found the kitchen to be well equipped. My husband loved the fire place in the living room as well as the outdoor grill. For us, the main attraction was the spectacular garden and the location. We loved it! It's very private and mostly quiet, except for nature sounds. There are several beautiful redwoods, a little orchard, and just lots of space to explore and things to watch. Our city toddler was amazed at the various bird sounds that greeted us every morning we strolled down the garden. Walking through the garden and down a tiny hill, we spent lots of time at the creek, watching birds, little fishes, throwing small stones. It was so easy to entertain our toddler as there were endless things to explore. The location is also great. It is very easy to get to local attractions (river beaches, ocean beaches, hikes) in a short car ride. In short, we loved it here. The only thing we would note that this a perceivably a dog friendly place, i.e., we noticed that people with dogs have been there prior to us (aside of the dog food bowls :)). Not sure, if it's always like this.

Our family of 5 + mother in law + dog had a wonderful and comfortable stay at Seventeen Sequoias. The massive back yard was securely fenced in so that our young children and dog could run around to their hearts content and so so safely. Very convenient Creek access on the back of the property led to hours of fun skipping stones. We went during the winter but I'd imagine it would be a great spot to beat the heat. The property itself was sparkling clean and had all the amenities one could want all labeled and well thought out. It is a close 20 minute drive to Armstrong Woods and 20 - 40 min drive to the various coastal beaches. Right down the road in Duncan Mills we found some great options for meals and also enjoyed a few home cooked meals in the spacious kitchen. Will definitely want to come back and highly recommend for anyone looking for a great few days off the grid.

Endless exploration for our elementary-aged kids, and generously equipped with amenities and staples that make it an enjoyable time for the grown ups too. The large backyard leading to the creek was a perfect space to roam. Indoor spaces were cozy.
