Description

A wonderful riverfront property with a short walk to the beach - The Sandy Star started life as a traditional Russian River home with wood paneling and floors throughout. Under new ownership, and a complete remodel, the house is bright and light with ample charm and character. Hand painted murals grace 3 bedrooms and modern conveniences and cheery artwork liven up the kitchen, bathrooms and living spaces. And outside is as delightful as inside at this riverfront escape!

The beautifully remodeled and bright kitchen faces the living room and sometimes dining space. A long counter seats 6 guests in bright orange tall chairs, all the better to laugh and joke with the "kitchen staff" and enjoy each other's company. Stainless steel appliances - fridge, stove and oven, dishwasher, microwave and coffee maker - and oodles of counter space make cooking a pleasure at The Sandy Star. And there's ample storage space for your sundries. Sip a cup of coffee or tea in the kitchen's seating nook while supervising breakfast preparation.

Or linger in the living room with a glass of wine. From the sectional sofa, leather chair and rocking chair you can snug in front of the gas fireplace or turn and watch a movie on the flat-screen TV. Behind the sofa, the console converts into a dining table to seat 6 comfortably or 8 tightly. If the weather is nice, though, you'll want to eat outside! The crowning glory of the living room is the full wall of windows that fold open to the deck!

With two outdoor heaters, large picnic table with umbrella, propane BBQ and stunning views of the river - everyone will want to hang out on the upper deck! The newly built decks hover in the redwoods for a mix of shade and sunshine. Mosey down the stairs to the lower patio and deck to the 6 person hot tub (which is available 7 am to 10 pm, only) and outdoor shower.

Up a short flight of stairs from the living room, each of the three bedrooms has a queen bed and unique murals painted by a local (Bay Area) artist. Two bedrooms face the river and overlook the back decks and hot tub area while one bedroom faces the street of this quiet residential neighborhood. There's a full bathroom with double sink/vanity, cheery colored walls and subway tile shower with rain shower head. Off the hallway the washer and dryer are tucked into a closet.

The fourth bedroom is the kid's room - on the main level, just off the kitchen with a double/twin bunk bed with and views to the river. There are games and toys in the drawers and a door to the huge back deck. A second full bathroom with tiled shower and rain shower head is next to the kid's room and kitchen.

A short mosey down a path leads to a fantastic neighborhood beach. You can cut through the backyard or walk around the house to the public easement which serves as a wide path to the river. A double kayak and canoe are locked in the lower backyard for guests to use between mid-June and the end of September, conditions permitting. Stop to pick blackberries in the summer but look out for poison oak. This beach is accessible nearly year-round.

Know Before You Book:

Maximum Occupancy and Quiet Hours: The maximum occupancy at The Sandy Star is 8 people. Quiet hours are from 9:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited at any time.

Quiet Hours and The Hot Tub: The Sandy Star is in a close-knit residential neighborhood. To maintain a good relationship with our neighbors - and remain in compliance with the Quiet Hours mandated in the Vacation Rental Ordinance - guests are welcome to use the hot tub until 10 pm when the hot tub is set to shut off. After that time, please relocate to the upper deck or inside. The hot tub has power only between 7 am and 9 pm.

Parking: On-site parking is permitted for a maximum of 3 vehicles. There is space for up to 2 cars in the driveway and an additional car on the street in front of the house. The garage is not available for guests. RVs, trailers and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.

EV Charger - Available with Advance Request Only. The Sandy Star has a TurboCord Electric Vehicle Charger with designated 240v NEMA 6-20 outlet. The TurboCord has a standard SAE J1772 plug and works with most electric vehicles sold in the US. The cord is made available to guests who request no later than 1 week in advance of their arrival date. In the case of reservations made within one week of arrival, the cord can be requested at the time of booking.

Bed Sizes: First Bedroom: Queen Bed; Second Bedroom: Queen Bed; Third Bedroom: Queen Bed; Fourth Bedroom: Twin/Double Bunk Bed.

Heat Source: Central Heat and Gas Fireplace with a remote.

Rec/Game Room: The game room is an unheated, uninsulated space. Temperature varies throughout the year.

A/C: The house does not have air conditioning. Being near the coast, the nighttime temps drop and just opening some windows is usually enough to cool the house.

Stairs: Exterior Stairs - there is a short flight of stairs to the front door and another short flight of stairs from the back deck to the lower deck, hot tub area and playroom. Interior Stairs: There is a short flight of stairs from the living room area to the upper level with 3 of the bedrooms, full bathroom, and W/D.

Beach and River Access: The Sandy Star faces the Russian River and a fantastic neighborhood beach. There are two ways to get to the path to the beach. First, you can take the stairs from the back yard by the hot tub and go through a gate in the lower yard. Second, walk out the front yard and turn right, immediately onto the path. Either way, it's a very short walk to the beach and river.

Docks and Boats: Docks and beaches are seasonal only and available from mid-June to mid-September providing the summer dams are in. Canoes, kayaks, paddleboats and rowboats that are provided in some of our homes are also available from mid-June to mid-September only. The river is usually too swift for boating in the winter and many docks and beaches are under water until late spring.

Work from HERE: A desk, chair and lamp sits in an out-of-the-way spot in the living room - adjacent to the large back deck.

We booked a last-minute getaway and booked this home. Overall it was a wonderful home - just the right size for our family of four plus dog. Unfortunately it rained the whole time so we couldn’t use much of the backyard/hot tub. The location is beautiful and right on the river. One thing was that the unit was extremely cold when we arrived and their central heat took a long time to heat up (4+ hours). However the team at river homes was very responsive, despite it being Christmas Day, and got someone to come check it out and sent space heaters. A few minor issues - the door knobs are extremely finicky for the rooms and are hard to turn. Additionally the towels in the kitchens and bathrooms all smelled when we arrived so we had to run a load in the washer. -via Airbnb

We paid $955/ night. It was not a holiday time. I think the place is priced high. Handles to open the windows or sliding door kept falling off. We arrived late in the night, drive day was blocked by trash and recycling bins. -via Airbnb

But it's pricey, and we had some issues: - Hot tub didn't work the first night - House had a very bad dog smell - Kitchen had no basic staples/condiments - Several of the owner's dirty sandals were left in the living room - Close to the river, but also near a noisy highway - Decorations look plain, like a chain hotel For the high price, we thought it would be much better. Overall, this was a great house. The location is perfect, quick drive to town; it's on the river so it's so easy for river beach days and you can go back and forth to the house. The multi-level deck with hot tub is also a great place to hang out. This is also in a real neighborhood, so it's good if you want to just go for a neighborhood walk and not be on busy streets. The Sandy Star is a gorgeous spot! My husband, son, and I traveled with my extended family (8 of us total from ages 1-84!) and the Sandy Star was perfect for our needs. The deck is tranquil and lovely and we found the space to be perfectly appointed with everything we needed to be comfortable for our five-day stay. Our second weekend here with 7 guys. We cooked up a storm in the awesome kitchen, played a lot of poker in front of the fireplace, caught a few surf perch over in Bodega Bay, hiked through Armstrong Redwoods and heard owls/saw slugs, hiked in Bodega and saw whales, cold plunged in the Russian every day, rinsed off in the outdoor shower and went directly to the hot tub, watched a deputy's sidearm while he jumped in the river to save a distressed woman and left very regretfully. Just lovely in every respect.

This home is absolutely beautiful, and the floor plan was exceptional for our needs (2 couples, an adult daughter, and a fur baby). The kitchen was stocked perfectly. I brought so many of my kitchen utensils/pots/pans to prepare my Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinners, but I barely needed any of them. I fell in love with the stove--it cooked and baked to perfection. We didn't have any problems with anything, so we didn't need to contact anyone, but we were constantly sent information that reassured us that help was available if needed. I can't even imagine how wonderful this home would be in the summer months--there are so many options for indoor/outdoor living. The only recommendation my group had is that the living room needs a more comfortable sofa, with a higher, supportive back. We spent a lot of time in this beautiful space around the fireplace. The sofa absolutely did not change our outlook of our AMAZING 4 days at The Sandy Star. Thank you for a 5-star experience!!! -via Airbnb

Thanksgiving Gathering

This home is GREAT!!! *Excellent Layout *Excellent Kitchen. It lacked in some areas of utensils (But don't all vacation homes?) We were prepared for this & brought the fancy stuff (mixer, Cuisinart, serving trays, etc) For typical vacation use (limited cooking) this place has what you need!! *Fabulous backyard & EXCELLENT for pets!! It is well secured & so clean!!!! *Fireplace made us cozy & comfortable. We did not use the accordion doors as it was too cold so the indoor/outdoor vibe can only be appreciated in warmer weather. *This place has sleeping accommodation for more than is listed. The playroom (which has a touch of a musty basement smell-- A diffuser fixed this) has 2 double futons and 2 mini cotts for kids. *The beds are not good. If you have a great bed at home, then these beds are a big letdown. I'm a tough customer here, but it must be said that this is the area that needs improvement. They also need to supply more blankets and pillows. The beds in the playroom have no sleeping supplies & there is no extra to cuddle up on the couch with. *Parking is Limited!!! We had permission for day guests as we are local and wanted to eat as a big family. We parked 2 cars at Safeway and got by easily. Beach access is right next to home so there is zero wiggle room for cars. Very narrow streets. That being said, I should add that we parked 2 Full Sized crew cab trucks easily. *This is a GREAT home that I would absolutely rent again!!-via Vrbo

What a fabulous home! Can't say enough good things about our stay at the Sandy Star. The beach is right outside your door, which the kids in our group were thrilled about. We all loved the open living space, which opened up onto a big, lovely deck with views of the river and the beach. In-person, the house was just like the pictures but better, especially the kitchen. We found all the amenities we needed for our stay. We had two couples, a single, and two kids in our group and everyone had plenty of private space and didn't feel cramped at all. We just stayed at this amazing property for memorial day weekend. It was so clean, stylish, and maintained. The kids spaced, toys and games were definitely a plus. We loved the convenience of being able to order take put but also how fun it was to cook and gather by the kitchen area. Everything We Wanted in a Weekend

Just everything. The open layout was wonderful for communing with everyone, and the different levels of the deck gave different lighting, different perspectives on the river. Drinking a beer in the hot tub at three in the afternoon with the sun just behind the pine trees across the Russian was simply magical. The artwork is fantastic and intriguing, and I've never seen another CD collection that had both The Samples and Mary's Danish. I even taught myself to play a song on the guitar lurking by the desk. Comfortable beds, extremely well-equipped kitchen (we left some whiskey for the next person; seemed like the right thing to do...) and great communication with Alyssa and Co. at River Homes. Book direct through their website and save a few bucks--better to have it in your pocket than our AirBNB overlords'! Oh! And beach access was just the best. Could not recommend this place enough, and we're hoping to return next year.

House was amazing everything looked brand new. The layout was awesome, kitchen was great for cooking, bathrooms were spotless and showers were nice. Bedrooms were perfect too beds were comfy all had great pillows etc. The backyard deck was just a bonus the view was amazing and the hot tub was A1. Amazing River property with Redwoods on the property. Looks out over the Russian River, cute little neighborhood, open floor plan and 4 rooms so we all had a bed. Kitchen is well equipped for cooking or plenty of local diners nearby. Weather permitting town is walking distance as well. Great little 9 hole golf course nearby called Northwoods tucked among the Redwoods. The restaurant there has a nice grill and all the fryer food was great.-via VRBO

Fantastic River house. Close to the wonderful town of Guerneville to explore, shop and dine. The house is located on a quiet street with easy walking distance down to a sandy beach. The house is a spacious three bedroom, two bath. Very well laid out. Large kitchen that is very well stocked. Perfect for our group of six adults. We loved the outdoor deck and the hammock swing. We had an absolutely wonderful weekend at this home! Very clean, and great management. The location is right next to a somewhat public beach access walkway, Which we didn’t expect. But it wasn’t an issue at all. Also, The beach was very busy, but we didn’t mind… Everyone was so friendly. we had such a good time. We were also there on a holiday weekend which might’ve made it a little busier than normal. The house was very well-maintained and very beautifully decorated. We had a three year old with us who very much enjoyed all the toys in the playroom. I would definitely stay again! I hope the prices go back down again soon as the prices are a little bit high for next year.-via Airbnb

Fantastic location, beautiful home, excellent service. This beautiful freshly renovated home is great for enjoying indoor and outdoor space at the same time with the huge folding doors opening up to the deck which looks out onto the river. The bedrooms were quiet and away from the center of attention and the kitchen was stocked with everything you could hope for. The hot tub and playroom kept the kids happy for hours. We had a couple of requests while we were there and River Homes fulfilled them promptly and cheerfully. We had extended family in two other houses a one minute walk away and ours was by far the best. Beautiful home on the river. We booked this place to host my husbands 40th birthday and it was the perfect spot for our party of 10 (8 adults and 2 children). The kitchen was great for cooking. The rooms were comfortable. And the location was beautiful. Such a cute little town and the river beach is so serene. We went in March and have the beach to ourselves. Highly recommend.

This place was absolutely amazing! We can not wait to stay here again in the future. You can tell the owners really took the time to really include everything a renter would want and need in a vacation home. We loved the downstairs playroom for our toddler, it included so many toys! The hot tub was crystal clear, and had a beautiful view of the river and trees. We loved looking at all the art around the house. My favorite part about the home was that it was extremely clean and clutter free. Our family family felt very comfortable in this home and would recommend this home to any families that enjoy river activities. It is conveniently located next to a beach and we took full advantage of it!

We had an amazing time at the Sandy Star. The place was so clean, we were pleasantly surprised. This is by far the cleanest rental we've stayed at, and we've stay at many of them over the years. The place is amazing, very open concept, and that deck is the best. Everything was just as the pictures show, and even better in many aspects, another difference from most rentals which are nothing like the pictures. Everything worked well, we had no issues. There were plenty of towels, including beach towels that we could use. Customer service was great and very responsive. This has been one of the best stays (or perhaps the best) that we've had so far.

This house was really amazing. We loved the design, the modern touches, and the open floor plan. The outside deck was such a nice place to relax and cook up some family meals. The kitchen was a great space for cooking up dinners and had a lot of amenities. We enjoyed walking down to the beach although it isn't quite as sandy as the pictures make it look. The use of the kayak and the awesome canoe was a great add on for the entire family, as was the hot tub! We will definitely be back! Thank you!

Lovely property right on the river. The interior is filled with thoughtful and interesting design choices, from the fixtures to the furniture to the art on the walls. The downstairs play room was great for kids. Ours were very happy with all the book choices. There was a minor issue with the hot tub when we were there, but the property manager responded promptly and all was well.

My family enjoyed our stay at the Sandy Star,. The house was very clean, modern , quiet and conveniently located to the beach and town. The playroom was an added bonus for the kiddos. Special thanks to Jordan from the property management agency for responding to my emails and calls. (We needed a second home near Sandy Star for other guests, and he was able to assist us.)Not a criticism, but just suggestions: Darker window covers in downstairs bedroom so kiddos might sleep in longer, ha..ha. And a lighter weight single kayak that I can carry down to the river for seniors like myself and/or single women/men.Looking forward to returning soon.Dorothy

We had such a wonderful stay at the Sandy Star! The deck is absolutely stunning, with the beautiful redwoods such an integral part of it. The fireplace was a lovely bonus, as were the exterior patio heaters. Our group of 8 adults all loved the extremely well-designed and well-organized kitchen, we cooked up a storm. Everything has been really well thought out and the home was spotless. We all can't wait to return!

Gathered a few new families to stay at the Sandy Star and had the best weekend. Great/safe space for little kiddos to crawl/practice walking around. Huge open doors onto the deck and easy/quick access to a quiet beach. Very clean, lots of kitchen amenities, and rooms are quiet from one another (babies can't hear each other crying). Quick and easy check in and check out process! Will book again!

I have stayed in many home in Guerneville and along the Russian River in my lifetime, and I have to say this house ranks among the top 5. Great location, around a 20 minute walk to town. Riverfront, next to a great beach. The house was modern and had all the amenities we needed. Plenty of space. The kitchen was full stocked with all the tools we needed for cooking. Beautiful deck/yard area with a hot tub. Great decor. Seriously, I loved the art. I already have this house booked again for September and I can't wait.

Such a fantastic home in a beautiful setting! The house itself is charming and sweet. Very spacious for our group of 7. The patio and outdoor space were amazing, with plenty of mornings spent sipping tea while enjoying the view or lounging in the hot tub. The location was also perfect - a short drive to the vineyards we selected to visit in addition to Guerneville, Healdsburg, Armstrong State Park and Sonoma Coast State Park! We have stayed at the Sandy Star two times. It is a real indulgence but worth it. The house is nicely compact with great details and style. You feel like you are vacationing in a magazine shoot. The attention to detail -- great kitchen supplies, slippers, dog bowls, are appreciated. The deck and doors that extend inside to outside are awesome. I love sitting among the huge redwoods that come up through the porch. And the walk down the trail to the water is easy and accessible. My husband and I have visited with his parents and his sisters family, which includes to school age kids. All enjoy and plenty of space.

Stayed here over the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend. Lovely home with very modern amenities within a river house atmosphere.We made our Thanksgiving meal for 8 quite nicely in the kitchen (though we had brought some extra pots/pans which we definitely needed). But there were plenty of dishes, glasses, flatware, etc. We even ate outside as there were outdoor heaters available that kept us quite cozy while enjoying our turkey and cranberry sauce.We had 5 people staying in the house, but it would have housed a few more comfortably.All in all a very positive experience!
