Description

Sanctuaire is a private garden oasis, tucked away in a sunny riverfront neighborhood. The fully enclosed yard, great for dogs and kids, is beautifully landscaped and is equipped with outdoor dining, gas grill, sauna and hot tub. Enjoy relaxing indoors and out, or walk to the river and the town of Monte Rio, less than a mile away.

The interiors are comfortable, clean and modern. The main cabin sleeps 4 people, with two bedrooms (one with a connected bathroom), a second bathroom, and an open living space complete with dining area, full kitchen, woodstove and living rooms with television.

The studio (no bathroom), with rich wood interiors and views of the garden, sleeps 2 more people on the twin daybed with twin trundle. The sauna is also located in the studio. The fully fenced property is private, and fully encases the studio and main cottage, making easy access between the cottage and studio.

Know Before You Book:

Maximum Occupancy and Quiet Hours: The maximum occupancy at Sanctuaire is 6 people not including kids under 3 years old. Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm until 7:00 am. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited at all times.

A Note About Our Cleaning Fees: Thank you for supporting our local business! When you stay with us, you are supporting local families at work. We think everyone deserves a decent living wage, and we make sure to set the rates and fees so that our cleaners and employees earn a living wage in beautiful Sonoma County. The cleaning fee goes directly to the cleaners and inspectors for their hard work in making sure our guests have a wonderful and welcoming space to call home for their stay.

Parking: There is parking for a maximum of 2 vehicles, one in the carport and the other on the street in front of the house. RVs, trailers and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.

Bed Sizes: Primary - king; guest bed – queen; studio – daybed with trundle (2 twins)

Bathrooms: 2 Full Bathrooms, front bath - shower stall; master bath - tub/shower combo

Heat Source: Electric Baseboard Heaters

Location: Sanctuaire is in a cozy residential neighborhood. It is a mix of permanent residents and vacation rentals, families, working folks, and visitors. To honor this balance, we ask guests to park in designated parking and respect the quiet hours in addition to general family-friendly, residential neighborhood expectations. Thank you for helping to continue the tradition of a mutually beneficial relationship between vacation rentals and local community!

Stairs: 4 stairs to the front door, several stairs from the back door into the yard, and a couple of steps into the studio.

Pet Friendly: Two dogs allowed per reservation.

Fencing: The backyard is fully fenced, but we always recommend checking the fence line before letting your dog off-leash.

Wifi Speed: Advertised: 40 Mbps, tested 26 Mbps

We had a very nice stay at Sanctuaire. It was very much the promised private garden retreat, the separate studio and sauna were very cool extras though we did not use them. Ours was a chilly, rainy weekend so our outside time was mostly in the hot tub, the backyard would definitely be a great place to relax when it gets a little sunnier :-) -via Airbnb

Home was what we expected, it was cozy, mostly clean, and had everything we needed. The hot tub and sauna were excellent. A few tips for future guests, 1. at night we saw a skunk in the backyard. Thankfully we saw it before our dogs did. 2. Our small dog went under the guest house and smelled so bad I had to give him an outside bath. -via Airbnb

nice place for a 6 member party

Very nice place for a 6 member party. the two single beds are accessed through the bathroom which was a little strange. the location was great except for the steep climb. most cars won't make the climb to the real driveway. so walking the steps is most likely. With all of the redwood leaves deposited on the steps up to the house, the wetness of the recent rain shower made it difficult to navigate at night. But this place is worth another rental! we loved the views and the hot tub! Thanks again for opening your place for us!-via Airbnb

The neighborhood is peaceful with friendly neighbors. Less than a mile walking to the public river beach with boat launch and free parking; perfect for the wonderful kayaks we borrowed from the home for a great day on the water. The nearby construction could not easily be heard inside the home but if that bothers you, we heard it most days from outside in the garden until about 5pm. Such a great location as it is halfway between Guerneville/Rio Nido for some riverside night life and Jenner Gulch for tide pooling, hiking and playing stick in the ocean with our dog. Bodega Bay is a quick drive for fresh seafood. There’s a general store for basics in walking distance. The home and garden are beautiful. So many towels and linens and cooking supplies! Beds and sheets are soft like home. We many wonderful meals out on the grilla and in the spacious kitchen. Of course the hot tub and sauna were a dream! I feel so relaxed now! Charming little place from an earlier era in a great location. Nicely decorated. Good place to hang out with a small group. Close to everything Monte Rio has to offer and a short drive to most of the other places Russian River is known for. But, no need to leave since everything you need to relax and pass time is available at the house -- cook, read, soak sauna, etc. Would definitely recommend.-via Airbnb

Great location but the property has some issues, water pressure, old deck, unkept hot tub, broken doorknob, and expected wear and tear on an older house. The location really is the reason to stay here. You won't spend all that much time hanging out at the house itself.-via Airbnb

We had a great time. It’s tucked in a quiet neighborhood. The yard is peaceful and secluded, loved that the rental is dog-friendly. Close to the river, Guerneville and Jenner. River Homes sent helpful daily messages through the Air B&B app. We would definitely visit again.-via Airbnb

We loved the house, especially the awesome studio to give our adult son privacy. The kitchen was very well-equipped for cooking, which is a rare thing to find in a rental house. I appreciated the friendly and quick communication from the rental agency, too. I think that if it were accessible to the river (we never used the kayaks because of this), it would definitely be worth the price.-via Airbnb

The location of the Sanctuaire is fantastic- a short stroll to a few restaurants and the river beach. The back garden is beautiful and peaceful. The house itself is rustic, but also cozy and we enjoyed the games. The neighborhood is very quiet which was great.-via Airbnb

lots of greenery

Backyard is the highlight- private, lots of greenery, a nice couch area and eating table. It is well fenced in- great for small dogs, but not room for a bigger dog to run. Loved that there was a hot tub but there was so much chlorine in it that it was unusable. The house itself is nothing to write home about. Older vacation home that has been semi kept up. Terrible thrift store art, outdoor table set indoors, mold in the main shower. The kitchen was well stocked. Enjoyed the woodstove. The main bedroom had a very comfortable mattress but a mildew-y smell. That second bedroom has a full, not the queen mattress listed. Great location, walkable to a few things and a easy drive to Guerneville or the coast. Very quiet neighborhood. The front of the house is not attractive, there's a reason they don't have a picture of it listed. Obviously that doesn't matter, but it would help for first finding the place. Overall had a nice stay but it was in no way worth $1200 for a long weekend.-via Airbnb

easy to feel right at home

The property was so cozy and comfortable it was easy to feel right at home. The garden is lush and beautiful and the smell of jasmine floats on the breeze. This was probably the most well stocked airbnb I’ve ever stayed in. Anything you could need in the kitchen or to make cocktails and enough towels to last a month without laundry. The yard is completely private. I enjoyed my stay so much I asked to stay an extra night and the hosts were prompt in response and kindly accommodated. I would definitely visit again. There is no cell service in the area and the Wi-Fi works but is not great, so wouldn’t recommend if you plan on working during you stay.-via Airbnb

We had a wonderful stay at Sanctuaire Garden Retreat in Monte Rio. It’s a cabin style home with a beautiful outdoor area. The home is spacious, cozy and well-equipped with everything you need for a relaxing getaway. The jacuzzi and sauna are amazing, and the garden is beautiful and peaceful. The location is perfect, just a short walk to the Monte Rio beach and a few minutes drive to other attractions along the Russian River. The Boho Manner Resort is also a short walk away for some live music, food and drinks. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a serene and comfortable retreat in nature.-via Airbnb
