Description

Whether you're new to the Russian River or stayed here a hundred times, you will love Racer Five and its modern, yet comfortable, décor and vibe!

Delightful new construction and a complete remodel (2014/15) resulted in a home for friends and family to getaway to wine country, play at the river and enjoy each other's company. Racer Five is a very tall three story home with the open gourmet kitchen, living and dining rooms, one bedroom and full bathroom on the upper level. On the large deck there’s a propane BBQ and outdoor seating for everyone. A smaller deck at the back is perfect for sitting and having your morning coffee or afternoon glass of wine.

A custom made spiral staircase allows guest to travel between the upper and middle levels without stepping outside, but there are exterior stairs as well and a second large deck on the middle level with additional outdoor seating. The remaining four bedrooms, full bathroom and laundry room are on the middle level. The bathroom is off the hallway so there's no need to cut through a bedroom. There's plenty of room to spread out in the house or outside!

A few words about cooking at Racer Five - it's an amazing experience! And building this gourmet kitchen was a labor of love. There are new stainless steel appliances and a professional grade Thermador range with 8 burners, double oven and barbecue/griddle on top. Top notch accessories throughout the kitchen and exceptionally good lighting make this the perfect place to make and share a meal with your best buddies and family.

Kids, well-behaved dogs and adventurous chefs will love the fully fenced yard as well! With a third of an acre of majestic redwoods and new landscaping including a separately fenced veggie garden, you can't go wrong. Pick veggies and herbs to cook with during your stay. A tree fort and hammock will keep the kids occupied while adults fire up the outdoor wood fired pizza oven. There's ample seating by the outdoor grill and adjacent fire pit - don't forget the marshmallows!

Everything you need is within walking distance! Across the historic walking bridge you'll find oodles of restaurants and cute shops (less than half a mile), Johnson's Beach (0.6 mile) with the best river access and sandy beach, and Riverkeeper Park (0.4 mile) featuring native plants and habitat with educational markers. On the south side of the river (same side as the house) you can walk to the Guerneville River Park (.3 mile), Pee Wee Golf (0.2 mile), and a kid's playground (0.3 mile) with tennis and basketball courts.

Light sleepers, folks with kids and dogs should be aware the neighbor has a boisterous group of dogs. They will announce your arrival at the house and other, especially unfamiliar, noises.

Know Before You Book:

Maximum Occupancy and Quiet Hours The maximum occupancy at Racer Five is 10. Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited at any time.

Parking: On-site parking is permitted for a maximum of 5 vehicles; there is space in the driveway for up to 4 cars; additional street parking is available on a first-come first-served basis. RVs, trailers and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.

Bed Sizes: First Bedroom (Upper level): Queen Bed; Second Bedroom (Middle level): Queen Bed; Third Bedroom (Middle level): Queen Bed; Fourth Bedroom (Middle level): Two Twin Beds; Fifth Bedroom (Middle level): Two Twin Beds.

Heat Source: Central Heat.

A/C: The house does not have air conditioning. Being near the coast, the night time temps drop and just opening some windows is usually enough to cool the house.

Stairs: Please be aware that guests must take stairs to access the living areas of the house.
There are three flights of exterior stairs and a spiral staircase inside.

Awesome place, would love to check back in with nicer weather to be able to enjoy all of the outdoor spaces. Would not recommend for someone who has trouble moving as there are a lot of stairs. -via Airbnb

Christmas week 2023

We stayed in Guerneville over Christmas week 2023 with two families. The house was clean, with clear instructions from the responsive host. The layout, offering separate floors and bathrooms for each family, enhanced our privacy and comfort. Its proximity to Armstrong State Park and the Russian River was a highlight. Note for future guests: the entrance is on the top floor, challenging for those with accessibility concerns or heavy luggage. The AC fan can be loud at night, so you might prefer the room heaters. Internet connectivity was generally good for streaming, despite occasional drops and freezing, which is understandable in a remote location. Mobile reception was mediocre, particularly with Verizon. Despite the rain and limited dining options due to holiday closures, our stay was comfortable. We appreciate the hosting team’s efforts in accommodating us during this festive season. The location was top-tier and the accommodations were very nice. Only two issues were that the wifi was spotty and the dogs who lived next door barked non-stop all night and morning. We would stay here again. -via Vrbo

Roomy, comfortable house in a great location within walking distance of "downtown" Guerneville. The kitchen is big and well equipped, there are three decks for large groups to spread out on, and though the weather was very hot during our stay and the house has no air conditioning, we were never uncomfortable. This was the first time we stayed within walking distance of downtown. Fun to explore and walk to restaurants, ice cream and cute plant shop. We stayed here with our family and kids. The house was easy to find and parking was really easy. The gated yard made it super easy to have kids and dog playing in the yard safely. The treehouse, ping pong table and outdoor furniture made it easy for everyone to hang out together but still do their own thing. The kitchen and stove were really great and made it easy for everyone to cook together . Downtown is super close and we walked to get ice cream everyday. The hosts were very responsive and easy to communicate with . Thank you Alyssa ! The only downside were the number of stairs to get to the house entrance and the steep, winding stairs from the living area to the bedrooms on the lower level. The stairs are definitely challenging for older guests and for dogs also. It was also very warm the weekend we stayed but there are plenty of fans and the lower level with the bedrooms cools down a lot at night . Overall, I would recommend a stay here. It’s been one of our family’s favorite airbnb experiences.-via Airbnb

Great property for a large family or multiple families, and pet friendly was a huge plus. Nice kitchen that was very well equipped with high quality cookware. The yard and parking areas were large and the yard was a great place to hang out and enjoy the shade on warm days. The home and yard are very pet friendly and the full fencing was very secure and lockable. I would highly recommend this property and I would rent it again. We love this property. It is the second time we have stayed at this property and have enjoyed our stay. This property is in a great location within walking distance to just about everything. Just a stone’s throw from restaurants, bars, wine tasting, mini golf, river, Johnson’s beach, kayaking, etc. 30 minutes by car to the gorgeous Sonoma Coast and 20 mins to historic Duncan Mills or The Wildflower Bakery in Freestone. The house has most everything you could need including a gourmet kitchen with and amazingly large island to gather around, several decks, fire pits, tree house, garden, fantastic gas grill, outdoor tables for eating on the deck, huge wraparound sofa, and majestic redwoods right in the completely fenced yard. We LOVE this pet friendly home. We had lots of family fun and so happy to make memories with our loved ones roasting s’mores and having a ping pong tournament and just chasing the dog in the yard. The property is well kept, clean, and spacious. It is an absolute gem.-via VRBO

Walkable to downtown

Good house close to downtown Guerneville. Walkable to downtown. Top two levels of the home are used. We were four adults and three kids and we had plenty of room. A couple of nice decks and then a large outdoor ground-level area with a hammock, fire pit, outdoor oven, tree house, ping pong table, and garden. The kids enjoyed playing outside. Be aware that there are many stairs getting to the front door and a spiral staircase in between the two floors, so anyone coming to the house needs to be able to navigate them.-via Airbnb

We had a lovely stay! Our group of 9 women spent a long ladies weekend here, and loved the easy walking distance to town and the river. The beach was also an easy 20 minute drive away. You can walk to the river and cross the bridge to downtown Guerneville in a matter of minutes. The beds were comfortable and everything was extremely clean. Lots of pots and pans to choose from to cook with and a nice fenced in area for the dogs. The stairs helped us get extra exercise too. We would rent this place again. We spent a lot of time outside on the deck enjoying the views and nice weather. Thanks so much for having us!

Great house for a family reunion. There were 5 bedrooms, but only 2 bathrooms - we wish there was one more. But the house was very clean and the kitchen was great - best I've ever seen at a rental. Lots of outdoor space for the kids to run around. Great location too - less than 10 minute walk to miniature golf, a playground and downtown Guerneville. We'd definitely stay here again.via AirBnB

Racer Five was the perfect home for a group of 10, it fit us all comfortably. Great location and after a day of crabbing in Bodega Bay it had the perfect kitchen to have a crab boil with what we caught. Great spot with an even better location. We rented racer 5 to celebrate my fathers 70th birthday and had toddlers, young kids, 30 year olds and of course some people in their 70s and everyone had a great time. The kitchen was a really nice place to gather and was stocked with everything you need. My only warning is that there are a lot of steps, so if you have an issue with this, maybe try another location. Overall an awesome place!

We had a ladies weekend away with 9 women and this place was fantastic! Great location, close to downtown and Safeway when we forgot something and close to wineries. The kitchen is fantastic! We made several large meals for the group and it was nice having a large open room to gather. Only issues, which wasn't really an issue because we knew about it is the stairs... There are A LOT of them! After several trips unloading the cars.. you do get winded. Also, neighbor dogs went a little crazy at ~7am, but we were told that they can be loud sometimes. I would highly recommend this place for a group! I slept in on of the twin beds and it was super comfortable.Source: Airbnb

This was such a beautiful house and property! It was perfect for our two families with younger kids (total of 5 ages 4-10). The yard was fenced in and secure, the treehouse and tire swing were a hit, and the garden was lovely as well! We also spent a couple afternoons afternoons at the nearby beach along the Russian River, and we could BBQ and cook in the beautiful kitchen while the kids played downstairs! The only thing that I would let folks know is that it is a lot of stairs (living quarters are on the 3rd and 4th floors). This was fine for us, as it gave beautiful views and we don't mind stairs! This was a clean home with most everything you need. Yes, neighbor's dogs bark constantly, but not that big of a deal. The bigger deal was the number of stairs to climb over and over, seems to be a recurring these in Guerneville homes. The yard set up was great, but we didn't eat down there because we didn't want to carry everything needed up and down those stairs. So we mostly cooked in the bbq and pizza oven and then trekked the food back upstairs to the top where the kitchen and living area was. If you like to cook on wood, bring your own as they supplied mostly pine. Very close to town, wineries, and not too far from the coast.
