Description

Idle Hours is a beloved Russian River vacation home. Owned by the same family for generations, it was designed for ease and functionality. The care that goes into maintaining this comfortable, easy-going river retreat is evident in every detail. Tastefully adorned with family keepsakes and perfect river cabin kitsch, Idle Hours has gained every benefit from the recent remodel. Cozy and warm in the winter, relaxing and inviting in the summer--once you get here you will not want to go home!

Once up the flight of front stairs, the entryway opens to a spacious living room with ample comfy seating, high ceilings, attractive accent lighting, Cable TV with DVD player and, at its heart, a large gas fireplace. Through the living room's large open doorway, you'll find a large kitchen and dining room. With various places to hang, this area has a long list of uses: surf the web or get some last-minute work done at the corner desk; listen to tunes on the boom box; lounge or read on the single futon (which can be unfolded to a single bed); eat together, play a board game or a game of cards at the large dining table; or our favorite--sit on a tall stool at the kitchen counter and harass the cook for a snack or glass of wine.

The large back deck, accessed from the dining room, has outdoor dining, a gas grill, views of the river and a back set of stairs (with a latching gate) leading down to the riverfront lawn and river. There is enough room to picnic and lounge right on the river on the large river dock* for paddling up and down our lazy river.

Know Before You Book:

Maximum Occupancy and Quiet Hours: The maximum occupancy at Idle Hours is 8. Quiet hours are from 9:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited at any time.

Parking: On-site parking is permitted for a maximum of 3 vehicles. RVs, trailers and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.

Bed Sizes: Master bedroom: King bed; Second bedroom: Queen bed; Third bedroom: Double bed and Twin bunk beds; Dining room: Single futon

Heat Source: Central heat and gas fireplace in living room

A/C: The house does not have air conditioning. Being near the coast, the night time temps drop and just opening some windows is usually enough to cool the house.

*Docks and Boats: Docks and beaches are seasonal only and available from mid-June to mid-September providing the summer dams are in. Canoes, kayaks, paddleboats and rowboats that are provided in some of our homes are also available from mid-June to mid-September only. The river is usually too swift for boating in the winter and many docks and beaches are under water until late spring.

Location: Riverfront less than a mile from downtown Guerneville

A note about the home next door: Construction is happening at the home next door, typically beginning at 8 am on weekdays. Crews are not usually active on the weekends. The amount of noise from the activity will vary as the project progresses. The project is expected to last through sometime in 2024.

Our family had a great time here. The house is clean, the living areas are comfortable, and the kitchen is well-stocked with everything. The labeling on cabinets and light switches is very helpful. We especially enjoyed the beautiful deck and the dock with access to kayaks, paddleboards, etc. ... hours of relaxation and fun, Communcation from River Homes was great. We're definitely coming back!

This was one of our most favorite AirBnb’s. They had everything you needed to enjoy the river. Kayaks, canoe, floaties plus a ping pong table. And the kitchen was very well stocked with super clean bathrooms. Would definitely rent again! -via Airbnb

We really loved the house. Very clean and nicely decorated! The patio is beautiful, with very nice furniture and plenty of space. The view of the river is perfect! Brand new BBQ on the patio (need to update house info in binder). Only a couple of things to note, the house is just off of a busy road, so you hear car traffic in the morning, and sadly the next door neighbor has construction going, so 7am each morning there was a lot of noise. But once that is done, highly recommend! -vi Vrbo

Had a very nice stay. 5 adults, 1 child, and one dog. Mostly went out to eat, but did stay in one evening and cook, and the kitchen is fully outfitted. Beds were comfortable, and the place was squeaky clean when we arrived.-via Airbnb

The description is accurate except for the impression you get of the back deck from the description. Access to the river is totally overgrown. In fact you can see very little of the river from the back deck. The neighbors (whether renters or residents) were somewhat noisy during the day but not at night. The place is a bit difficult to locate. It is directly across the street from the ACE hardware although there is a hedge row separating the street the property is on from the road and the hardware store.-via Vrbo

This house has a terrific location on the Russian River and the views are lovely from both the house and the dock. The house is well equipped and everything is labeled. It was perfect for our group and exceeded expectations. It seemed misleading though that with all the extra fees, the final price was almost double the listing price; I could have reserved three nice hotel rooms for the same price and not been asked to take out the trash...-via Vrbo

We stayed at Idle Hours for five nights and felt very much at home. The house is well-maintained and has a well-stocked kitchen, laundry room and bathrooms. Based on my past experience staying at other rentals, I brought some basic kitchen supplies just in case, but I didn't have to use any of my items. The owner is meticulous in keeping this house in excellent condition, and it's very comfortable and homey! This property is well situated and within a short drive to the beautiful Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve and the highly acclaimed Northwood Golf Course. It's also within a reasonable drive to Bodega Bay, Sonoma Coast State Park and the Charles M. Schulz Museum. You can also take a leisurely walk on Old River Road to the quaint downtown area of Guerneville, or just sitting on the deck enjoying the beautiful Russian River. We highly recommend Idle Hours! We will for sure return to the property and enjoy all it has to offer in another season when it's not so wet!-via Airbnb

Relaxing stay

Our family and extended family stayed for two nights in October. The river was too low to get a kayak in the water but nice to sit on the dock and fish/read/drink coffee/bird watch. We enjoyed the deck as well. House was very clean. Kitchen is super organized/labeled. Everyone was comfortable. Could use a new double mattress and pillows in the bunk room but sleepable. We actually had four in the bunk room. Two adults in the double and large teens in each bunk and it worked out fine. The home is cuter than in the pictures and we would stay again. Guerneville itself is tiny and adorable. On a Saturday in October it was great. Such a bonus that the dogs could come and the floors were worry-proof for kids, dogs and adults. We walked to town once but would not recommend it as there is a stretch that has no shoulder. Super easy drive. There is no fence. There is small grass area along with a huge flat concrete area above the dock. Littles could even rides trikes/bikes around.-via VRBO

Great place! Perfect for our family of 8 & our pup! Really nice price for the size, everything was very organized & had most things we needed. Beds were all very comfortable as well. The river being right out front was definitely a bonus, our family loves to cook so it was great that some of us could stay behind to prep meals, but still close enough to come down for a swim. There is no AC. Though we didn’t need one (we went in may), I assume it will be very hot in the coming months. Also the stairs are a lot, may not be great for older families. Overall great experience! Highly recommend for families!-via Airbnb

Stayed at the Idle Hours with my mom, sister and child during Thanksgiving week. It was AWESOME! The house is exactly as pictured. We loved it because we came over Thanksgiving and the kitchen was great for cooking all our favorites. The dining table was great for the whole spread and plenty of rooms for games too. So well situated, close walk to town, short drive to the wineries, and we also made it to the Ocean, to Calistoga and to Graton. Very peaceful and quiet at night. The management company was wonderful.

7 of us stayed here for a wonderful 4 day break. The house is perfect, we were not squashed together, there is a ton of space to sit and enjoy the company and the surroundings, both inside, on the lovely deck, or down by the river on the dock. We took a paddle board and a child's kayak, and used the 2 kayaks and the canoe provided. The river was the focus, we spent most of our time there being river rats, it was cool and lovely in the water. The house had everything, and more, that we needed. We loved every minute and didn't want to leave. We feel so fortunate to have found Idle Hours and will for sure be back!

This house is our go to! Big enough for kids, dogs and adults. Great location and easy access to the river! House is well appointed with items to make your away like home. Washer and dryer onsite for cleanup after a day qt the river. We love it!!

We've stayed here a couple of times and love it. The river access is beautiful and the indoors and charmingly decorated and a well stocked kitchen. We have stayed at Idle hours many times and it is a wonderful stay. Very quaint ground, but the rooms are ample. River access is great with boats, etc. So easy to get downtown by walking or a quick drive. We would definitely stay here again.

A beautiful house with a lot of thoughtful touches that make the stay easy and special. The entire house is wonderfully stocked with everything* you could need during your stay. It's cozy and comfortable and is clearly maintained with a lot of love. But the dock is the best part! We lived out there and enjoyed every minute of the river. The location (on the river and near town) is awesome with a caveat--it means it's basically on River Road and you can hear the cars in the house and on the deck all day and most of the night. The front bedroom would be a challenge for light sleepers in the summer when the window needs to be open. That said, I would book again. (*Bring your floaties! The only thing the house doesn't have.)

We went to Idle Hours with two other couples for President's Day. The house is super spacious - you can hang out in the living room to watch a movie or play a game, or gather around the large dining table with beautiful and comfortable dining chairs. The rooms are cozy, the showers are great and the deck is spacious and great for bbq'ing. Kitchen is so well equipped, we were definitely impressed! We definitely want to go back!

Amazing and beautiful. House was perfect for my family and friends. Very clean and accommodating.I love that it is next to the river and you have your own private dock to launch from. Kitchen and dining room are very large to host a dinner. Rooms are very spacious. Overall the home was excellent. Would love to stay there again.
