Description

Enjoy the romance of Casa Luna, a vintage riverfront cabin on the Russian River. This home features the charm of the 1940s era in which it was built, but has the comfort of modern appliances. Casa Luna offers hardwood floors, a high wood-beam ceiling, brick fireplace, the warmth of old knotty pine paneled walls and a country kitchen with a view of the river.

Enjoy the wonderfully expansive and private deck that wraps around two sides of the house and overlooks your own private meadow sloping down to the river. Wildflowers bloom late into the summer here. Relax in the hot tub and romantic outdoor shower surrounded by the privacy of majestic redwoods and the fragrance of bay trees. Stroll down the path through the meadow to the water's edge and enjoy a private floating river dock and canoe and paddleboat. (Available mid-June through mid-September.)

Casa Luna's amenities include a fully equipped kitchen with 5 burner gas range and convection oven, new dishwasher, recently remodeled Italian tile bathroom, bed and bath linens, romantic hot water outdoor shower surrounded by redwoods and adjacent to a large hot tub, comfortable deck lounge furniture and gas barbecue, a clothes washer, dryer and safe off-road parking. The house is conveniently located minutes from the towns of Guerneville, Rio Nido and Duncan Mills. All three towns offer shopping, restaurants, movies, public river beaches, as well as canoe and kayak rentals. Northwood Golf Course and Pee Wee Golf are only a few minutes away. The Pacific Ocean and stunning Sonoma Coast are a lovely 20 minute drive away.

Casa Luna is a non-smoking house and is dog friendly. The fully-fenced deck provides lots of space for a dog to soak up the sun and lounge. Your well-behaved mature dog is most welcome! Casa Luna features a keyless entry system, meaning you will have the convenience of an express check-in directly at the home!

Know Before You Book:

Maximum Occupancy and Quiet Hours: The maximum occupancy at Casa Luna is 5. Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited at any time.

Parking: There is space in the driveway for 2 cars. RVs, trailers and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.

Bed Sizes: First bedroom: Queen bed, Second bedroom: Double bed, Living room: Double futon

Heat Source: Propane wall heater, wood burning fireplace (no firewood or kindling provided).

A/C: The house does not have air conditioning. Being near the coast, the night time temps drop and just opening some windows is usually enough to cool the house.

Docks & Boats: Docks and beaches are seasonal only and available from mid-June to mid-September providing the summer dams are in. Canoes and kayaks are provided in some of our homes and are available from mid-June to mid-September only. The river is usually too swift for boating in the winter and many docks and beaches are under water until late spring.

Summer Rotation Day: Saturday
During the Peak Season, which runs end of June through August, Casa Luna has a 7 night minimum and rents on a Saturday to Saturday pattern. If you make an online reservation outside of this rotation day requirement, we may contact you about altering your dates.

The house was great and we enjoyed our Stay. My complaint is that the pictures are showing the River very full with the boats / dock usable. The water is about 50 feet down away from dock with a rocky beach ..It does state Mid June for that access but we checked out 6/14 which is Mid June, and I would have most likely booked another place with better access for swimming ect.. The homes across the river had dock and swimming access . Going by the pictures is why we booked this house-via Airbnb

Manager's Response

Hello Patrick, We're glad you enjoyed your stay - but, we're sorry Mother Nature disappointed you. We're happy to answer any questions - mid June is the general timeframe that the summer dams go into the river, helping to increase the water level for summer activities and slow the current. If we'd known river access was the main reason you booked, we would have suggested some other dates once the boats and dock were available. Feel free to reach out anytime when looking for your perfect place - we want to make sure you have everything you were hoping for!

Amazing location, great amenities, river access and close to downtown while also feeling remote and private. The only thing I’d say is it’s pet friendly, which is amazing since we have a couple of mini dachshunds but we did find some hair from previous pet travelers on some of the furniture. My wife has allergies so she had a stuffy nose and watery eyes all week. Everything else was amazing and we had the best time! Would definitely come back.-Via Airbnb

We've been on the hunt for the perfect place to stay when we take regular trips to the Russian River. After sampling many, we finally found the perfect spot at Casaluna. Spacious - beautiful, with wide open view of the river and a huge deck where you sit among giant redwoods. We weren't expecting a completely remodeled kitchen and bathroom - quite an added bonus. And our dogs appreciated the ivy and blankets for their use on the furniture. All around perfect vacation home.

My husband and I stayed for a week and so appreciated the quiet and the beauty of the area. The outside of this property is wonderful. Beautiful views of the river and trees and easy access to the river for swimming or canoeing/kayaking. Large, wrap around deck, hot tub and a wonderful outdoor shower nestled in the redwoods. Comfy outdoor seating as well. We spent most of our time enjoying the outdoors. We did not enjoy the inside of the home as much. I would recommend going during the warm summer months. The home is very dark and even on hot summer days, very cool inside, so cool in fact, that we had to turn the heat on in the morning and the evening, even with the day having been very warm. The house needs maintenance. Comfortable master bedroom. Not so much for the smaller bedroom. Double bed needs new mattress and it is dark, cramped and cold at night. Lovely bathroom. Nice kitchen. Modern appliances. Kitchen water tasted strange. Did not use for drinking or washing fruits and vegetables. Really appreciated the Smart TV system with the Bose soundbar and the blue tooth stereo. Large comfy living room. It's time for the inside carpet to replaced, but flooring very nice. Washer and dryer available as well. House is very clean. Always appreciate Russian River Vacation Homes management and attention to detail. Will definitely be back and rent a different home through the same company.

Manager's Response

Hello and thanks for the review! The owners have recently replaced the carpets and updated the wood flooring along with regular maintenance throughout the year. Admittedly, life under redwood trees is cooler. We love it in the summer when the trees do the job of air conditioning, but the rest of the year we turn the heater on for a bit in the morning and again in the evening to take off the chill. There are also new skylights in the living room - letting in additional light - which is lovely! The traditional wood paneling for interior walls in the area does lend to a darker interior, but the new skylights help with that too! There are new lights in the living/dining room areas as well. We hope you'll come back and see the updates!

This was just what we needed having missed staying up in the area last year due to the pandemic. This was our first stay at Casa Luna and we would definitely stay there in the future. The easy access down to the dock and well-maintained kayaks made our daily kayak runs so enjoyable. The view of the river from the deck and picture windows was breath-taking. We especially enjoyed being able to use the deck and all of it's features. The lounge chairs were great for relaxing, the hot tube surrounded by redwoods was a perfect way to end each evening and the outdoor shower next to the redwoods was a great to use coming back from the river. So peaceful and quiet. We also enjoyed staying next to the little Russian Orthodox Church as my spouse is of Russian heritage. We can't wait for our next trip!

This home ticked off so many features we look for in a vacation home. From pulling up on a flat entrance drive to a mere feet from the no-stairs front door to the take your breath away entrance with the river view beckoning you - it was a dream weekend for my husband and I. We loved the cabin-y feel to the place and the peaked high ceiling in the main room added to the sense of spaciousness. The deck was nice an roomy and we enjoyed relaxing in the lounger chairs and eating on the picnic table. Just about all I needed was in the kitchen for food prep, and it was fun to watch my hubby do dishes duty for me ! The bed was comfy, as was the leather couch and I enjoyed the TV selection offered. We can't wait to come back again, it was a perfect home. Quite clean and easy to get to/from town on the road. Your agency is very easy to deal with, I felt secure and all my questions were answered promptly. The best was the impressive home handbook - most thorough one to date, and the hot tub placement is convenient and private. All around a winner! Thank you!

About 5 min drive from town and a 1 minute walk in the back yard to the Russian river. The property was a bit cold and dark in the fall but plenty of heaters to warm you up. All of the expected amenities were there with no bells of whistles. Definitely rustic but clean and comfortable.

We loved our stay at Casa Luna. The place is fully equipped, with a great kitchen and a fantastic BBQ Grill on the deck. Two kayaks and a canoe tied up to the private dock were perfect (we did have to call management to bring the canoe down to the dock from storage, but they responded in less than an hour!). The deck is fantastic -- with a great view of the river through the trees. WE enjoyed the hot tub, as well. Clean and set to a perfect temperature, with an outdoor shower next to it to rinse off the chlorine. The deck is in shade most of the day, so the heat was not an issue. The house is very dark, as it has a northern exposure and is surrounded by tall trees. It could use better lighting -- even during the day -- in the kitchen and living area. Also, the front screen door was missing the latch, so it could not be shut securely, and there is no screen door for the rear slider. Not a deal killer, but something that needs to be taken care of. The property management group was excellent -- friendly and responsive. Advice to guests -- bring your own kitchen pantry staples. Pretty much only salt and pepper provided, and a bit of canola oil. The coffee maker does not work well -- not all of the grounds are wet by the hot water. We solved the issue by pouring the brewed pot of coffee over the dry grounds mid-way through brewing cycle.Source: VRBO Manager Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this thoughtful review. I am glad you had a wonderful time at Casa Luna. We love this little house - it is, in our opinion, the ideal river cabin. I am also glad to hear the compliments for our office. We work hard to resolve any issues brought to our attention in a timely manner. I have noted the couple of items you mention in the review and will discuss with the owners about getting a screen door on the back slider. We hope we can host you again soon! Ellen - Russian River Vacation Homes

A Lovely Oasis in the Redwoods

My wife, adult daughter and I had the most wonderful and relaxing four nights at Casa Luna. The home is situated in a quiet an lovely setting, fairly quiets and surrounded by trees. Two magnificent redwood trees emerge from the back deck, making you feel as though you are staying in an old growth forest. We brought our older dog, who refused to come in the house (His only phobia), but loved the enclosed a large deck. The highlights of our stay included using the included kayaks and canoe, plus our own inner tubes, to enjoy with clean, calm and relatively warm river from the cabin dock. We also loved relaxing on the expansive river view deck, whether for a meal or to read in one of the chaise lounges. We also appreciated the top notch Weber Gas Grill and the high quality stove. We ended up eating all of our meals at the cabin, simply because we loved being there! The bedrooms are ample size, and the mattresses decent. But the best area is the main room, with it's sliding glass doors looking out to the deck and river, beyond. The kitchen opens up to the great room, so everyone can be together during meal preparation. The bathroom is a decent size, and the shower spacious. Even though we were advised to bring our own beach towels, the house had plenty of them, as well a towels and bowls for the dog. The kitchen was well equipped with cooking and serving gear. If you use the coffee maker, you'll need to repour some brewed coffee from the pot into the still dry grounds -- as the hot water shower head does not wet all of the coffee grounds. We discovered this when our first pot came out incredibly weak,When we arrived, we noticed that the canoe was in storage. The property manager had two staff over within a half hour to move it down to the dock, which was great service. The were a few minor issues:1. No screen door for the big sliding back door. This meant bugs and mosquitoes get in.2. The front screen door could not be shut tight due to missing catch hardware. I jerry-rigged a bungee cord, but this was a bad oversight -- especially for families with a dog or young children.3. The place is very dark (as noted by others), due to its northern exposure and tall trees. We're big readers and jigsaw puzzle addicts, and there were no areas that were bright enough for these activities, without moving lamps and removing their shades. None of these were deal breakers, by any means. Hopefully, they'll be addressed by the property managers. Some hints for the next guests: Bring a jug or two of water, as the local water supply has a peculiar taste; If you plan on cooking much, prepare and bring little pantry kit of seasonings and condiments, as there is little more than salt and pepper (not even sugar) and a bit of canola oil.We spent little time in Guerneville, but recommend Big Bottom Market for their house made biscuits and Chile Pies Baking for their fresh fruit (in season) pies.We will definitely come back -- anticipating that the minor issues we found will be resolved. The property management people we dealt with were all very warm and responsive, so I'd guess they'll take action.

Casa Luna is very rustic, cozy, and very much a cabin in the woods. Comfortable beds, nice deck, clean hot tub, and room for the pooches. A great resting spot after you wine, dine and shop in Guerneville and surrounding towns.-Airbnb Guest-

House is very cute, very "cabin-y", which to me is a big part of the appeal. Kitchen is well stocked with utensils and such, the beds were comfy, and the furniture pretty good, but could use a few more cushions. There were lots of DVDs, CDs, books, and games for entertainment, which was great. The wifi was good. We are past the time for actually boating on the river, but we did notice the nice kayaks and other water stuff that would have been awesome, especially considering the river is right past the back yard, nice view! The hot tub and the outdoor shower were very nice, although it seems the hot tub had way too much chlorine in it. More places are getting away from using chlorine, and I hope you'll consider it too. It was strong enough to make us cough from the fumes while enjoying the hot tub. The bathroom seemed pretty nice, plenty of nice towels. Overall we really enjoyed our time there, but there were a few things I wanted to mention. Previous reviewers have noticed this too, and I think you are looking into it, but my main complaint is that the house was not very clean!! The kitchen sink was really dirty! Somebody had used the "splatter screen" on a frypan, made it greasy and dirty, then just hung it back up. It was really gross when I tried to use it. The shower stall has a squeegee to help clean up, and that was done, but it's obvious the shower stall hasn't actually been really scrubbed down in quite awhile. Also, the bathroom sink drains really slowly, so it should be treated. The other things are less of an issue, but it would be nice if someone sharpened the kitchen knives, (or left a better sharpener). They are all dangerously dull. The lamp by the stereo was missing a bulb. (The only good place to read is in the bedroom, because the lighting is so dim.) Also, the stereo has a manual if you need to figure it out, but the TV and DVD player don't! There were FOUR remotes! And no instructions... :( It took quite awhile to figure it out. The other thing is that it would have been nice if the deck (at least around the hot tub area) had been swept off. I know it's fall, and a lot of leaves coming down (I'm a local), but for the price we paid, I think it would have been nice to see a cleaner deck - it was really loaded up with those prickly little leaves, not so fun on wet feet. Anyway, super nice place for the most part, I just think that for the rental cost and the cleaning charge the place should have been a lot cleaner. I like it enough to come back, but maybe not until I have sampled some of your other rentals. Cheers!

Manager's Response

Hi Rebecca!
Catching up with technology! There's a nice new smart TV that we think is easier to use, but guests are still welcome to the vast DVD library. As a local, you know that it only takes a tiny breeze up at the top of the redwood trees to send a flurry of redwood duff and cones down to the deck or ground. And if that happens right after the cleaner or inspector sweep or blow off the deck, it looks like no one did it for weeks! That's life in the redwoods. We keep an extra broom at the house just in case guests want to sweep during their stay. There are also nice new skylights in the living room for daytime light and several new light fixtures in the dining and living rooms for light anytime. If any guest arrives and finds something dirty, we want to know and will send a cleaner out to address it right away. Of course, we don't want anything left unclean!

We stayed for a week in this cute house. Location of this house was an excellent! Easy spacious parking, clean, nice layout, very quiet surrounding, convenient for grocery shopping (Safeway store and our favorite Taco Truck there too!) and had everything we need for cooking. (Just minor thing was that living room seemed a little bit dark for our taste even during the day time, but had enough lamps, so may be fine for a vacation). However, it actually might helped cooling during the hot weather??. So, I don't complain. What we loved this house the most was a "Huge Wraps around Balcony" and that was the most relaxing area under the red wood trees over looking the river. Very serene and peaceful. We didn't use Hot Tub this time. May be next time. Additionally, we were so lucky to see two (mother and child) Deers came into the backyard. They weren't scared us at all. They stayed there quite a long time eating some plants and we enjoyed watching them from the balcony. They were so cute! Another great thing about this house was having a great property management crew of Russian Vacation Rental Office! Especially, we were so grateful for Ms. Ellen Deproto who helped us during our stay. When we decided to take a paddle boat, found out that mechanical part of paddles was already broken. (We wished that any former renters notified this Paddle Boat problem to the property manager for future guests.) We contacted a property office about it and many thanks to Ellen, she arranged to lend us their unused spare Kayak to replace broken paddle boat for our week. Her quick response and kindness made us so happy and full filled our satisfaction even more! And many thanks to this home owner, who share their lovely house with many guests. Thank you so much! Our little pooch, named "LUNA" also enjoyed very much with us too!Source: VRBOManager Response:Thank you for the review!!! And for being such gracious guests! Since your stay, the owners have brought two more kayaks to the house to replace the paddle boat. We were happy to bring our office kayak out to you!!! My husband and I, our one friend, and our dog just spent a week at this lovely place in Guerneville. We had a great time. The Pros were many: the cabin is right on the river with river access and its own little dock. There were water toys and a canoe provided which was great. The jacuzzi on the deck was awesome. The front deck is huge, wrapping around the whole house. It has a beautiful view! Even though there are technically houses on either side of you, it feels very secluded. We never even saw neighbors due to the thick and lovely foliage on the property. Cons: all the pillows were old and flat, seating in house was pretty uncomfortable, cabin was too dark inside. We noticed that there is a church right next door to the rental. There was hardly anyone there and it was quiet while we were there but we ran into someone that lives there who said occasionally there are a lot of people at the church and a big social event going on. Not sure what you could do about this, but if we'd spent the week listening to a party next door we would not have been happy. That said, the Pros far outweighed the cons. We would definitely stay there again!

Manager's Response

Thank you for listing the pros so very nicely for future guests! It really is a great place! The church next door is Russian Orthodox and no longer holds regular services. Once in a while, there's a work party to clean up the grounds, but they tend to be very respectful - and only during the day. We appreciate the feedback too - and will pass it along to the owners and see about getting some new pillows for sure! A lot of the older river cabins still sport the original wood panel walls - and they are dark! It's hard to show in the photos, but we try to keep them as honest and representative of the experience you'll have at the house as possible. I hope we'll see you again!

My favorite things about this cabin? The riverfront dock with boats, the big sunny deck with a view where you can have your morning coffee and evening cocktail, the outdoor shower which makes it easy to go in and out of the river throughout the day, the hot tub for a nighttime soak. Everything you need for a weekend on the river!
