The current health crisis is daunting – leaving us uncertain about making plans for the future. First and foremost, from our family to yours, we hope you are safe and healthy! Second, we’re adjusting our policies with new information as it comes out from local, state, and other agencies like the CDC. These protect our guests, homeowners, staff, cleaners, and local community – all of whom we care about deeply. With this in mind, here are the changes to our cancellation policy, office hours, cleaning procedures, and other helpful information.
Shelter In Place Order for Sonoma County:
The current Shelter In Place (SIP) for Sonoma County is currently in effect with no specific end date. We are canceling reservations with arrival dates on or before June 15th. We are currently taking new reservations for July 1st onward. However, we do not know if shelter in place will extend into July and beyond. If vacation rentals are not 'open' by your stay dates, you will not be able to come stay. See below for information if SIP extends to include your stay.
During the SIP, many local businesses are closed and restaurants are only allowed to offer delivery, take out and curbside service. Rentals and travel are limited to “essential” travel. Here is a link to the Sonoma County SIP Order. For a list of open restaurants, scroll to the bottom of this page.
What is “Essential” Travel and Can You Rent a Vacation Home during SIP?
During this time, we can only allow reservations that are essential in that they provide: (1) lodging to protect the County homeless population, (2) lodging for County residents who have been displaced and cannot return to their residence because there is a person residing at their residence that must isolate or quarantine or is at a high risk of severe illness from COVID-19, as defined in this Section 16.a. above, (3) lodging for County residents who need to isolate or quarantine, (4) housing support for Healthcare Operations, Essential Infrastructure, Essential Businesses, and Essential Governmental Functions (i.e. housing traveling nurses or government contractors)
Please inquire if you would like to reserve in May for essential travel. We will ask for documentation regarding the purpose of your visit. “Getting out of the city” and “needing more space” are not considered essential travel.
If SIP Extends to Include Your Stay:
We know it’s hard for everyone and we don’t want you to “lose” your vacation. If you booked prior to May 4th:
- The amount paid toward your stay can be used as a credit within 18 months. You can apply this credit to any house with available dates. Just check our website or call to see which homes and dates are available and we’ll apply the credit.
- Full refund*. We hope you’ll come back and visit us when things settle down! *Travel insurance is only refundable for 10 days from the original purchase date.
Reservations made after May 5th, please see below for our temporary cancellation policy.
Temporary Cancellation Policy:
We know many of you want to start planning for summer and fall vacations – and look forward to getting away after SIP is lifted! And we look forward to seeing you! But it’s hard to commit with such uncertainty. We understand, so to extend some peace of mind, we’re offering a more flexible cancellation policy.
Any new reservation for future dates, reserved now through June 1st, will allow penalty-free cancellations up to 14 days prior to the arrival date. For example, if you book on May 14th for a week starting August 8th, you can cancel for a full refund on or before July 25th. We have not updated our standard terms and conditions with this temporary policy, but will include a note in your booking confirmation that it applies to your reservation.
If the shelter in place is moved to include your dates and it is within 14 days of arrival, any non-refundable amount can be used as a credit toward a future stay within 18 months of the original arrival date.
This policy is for reservations made directly through riverhomes.com only. Reservations made on third party sites, including HomeAway, VRBO, Airbnb and Booking.com, are subject to the cancellation policy on the listing site used to make the reservation.
Our Physical Office:
To maintain social distancing, our physical office is closed, but we’re answering phones and emails (email@example.com) Monday through Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm. During SIP, we’re closed on Sundays. For “essential” travel guests, our afterhours emergency phone line is always available outside of business hours.
Cleaners have the CDC recommended list of effective supplies and procedures for disinfecting homes. As a precaution, we expect to continue these practices after SIP is lifted.
Planning for Summer:
One thing we know for certain is that SIP won't last forever, and we’ll be pretty excited to get out of the house as soon as we can! In addition to adjusting the cancellation policy, we’re lowering night minimums for summer. Many of our riverfront and larger homes rent with a set turnover day and a 7 night requirement. These are both waived with most 7 night homes available for 3 or 4 nights – including 4th of July! Many 4 night homes are now available for shorter stays as well.
Please call or email if you would like to rent for 30 or more nights.
- During SIP, we can offer “necessary housing” for 30 or more nights, but this requires proof of need.
- Starting after SIP is lifted, 30 or more night stays for any reason may be available.
If you are visiting Sonoma County for an event, race, or festival, it is likely suspended or will be rescheduled for a later date. Check with the ticketing agency or event website for more information and we hope you’ll stay with us for the rescheduled event! We know many event organizers are also struggling to address concerns, so thank you for being patient.
We Appreciate Your Patience!
This is an unprecedented situation and we're constantly reacting to new information and changes in local and global policies. Thank you for working with us! We want you and your future visits to Sonoma County happy and healthy too! And a reminder that we are here for you and look forward to supporting your needs as the situation progresses. To reschedule your dates or if there is anything else we can help with, please reach out!
Only “necessary” businesses are allowed to remain open, such as supermarkets, gas stations, and hardware stores. Restaurants are only allowed to offer delivery, take out and curbside service. Here are the restaurants we know are open, but we recommend checking their website or calling for hours as they may change.
