Bella Ursula

Riverfront Cabin, a Home Away from Home

Description

Bella Ursula is an enchanting house nestled among the redwoods and overlooking the Russian River. Bella Ursula's guests enjoy spectacular river views and the tastefully decorated interior features rich knotty pine paneling, hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings, and a woodstove. During the day, Bella Ursula is a great home base to play on the river and visit wine country. At night, with the logs crackling in the fire, Bella Ursula is a warm haven.

Bella Ursula is named after the talented artist whose original watercolors adorn many of the walls.
The living room and the king bedroom opens onto a spacious, sunny deck offering views down the river. The deck is a favorite spot - the perfect location for a long lunch, just relaxing and watching the birds (from ospreys to swallows) in the surrounding trees and the people kayaking on the river. Just off the deck is a separate master bedroom and bath with a shower. The kitchen, third bedroom and second bathroom with shower are located on the same level at the front of the house.

Bella Ursula is one mile west from downtown Guerneville. Northwood Golf Course is also nearby and the Sonoma Coast and many Russian River Valley wineries are only a short drive away.

**Brand New Kitchen Appliances installed February, 2017!

My family and I stayed here over Father's day weekend. The overall experience was great, we're pretty easy-going folk, so nobody had any complaints about the property. The only concern I had, was that there is no bathtub for babies. My son was 6 months old at the time and I couldn't put him in the bathtub, so I had to bring my own.
The staff at the rental company were great, when there was a problem with missing kayaks, they rented some for us from the shop in town and had them delivered to the property that day.
One of the days we stayed, it rained a bit, so we thoroughly enjoyed having the wood burning fireplace inside the living room which we were all able to gather around.
The main reason we booked this property, was for the space, and the fact that it is literally right on the river. We didn't have to leave the house if we didn't want to. Everything we needed was right there.
All in all, we did have a really nice time, and are contemplating booking again for the summer.

"Pretty good but not great"

4 of 5

While the house had a lot of charm, three good-sized bedrooms, including a separate master bed and bath, very comfortable beds and lots of towels, it was unnecessarily dark (charming old-fashioned lamps that did not provide enough light) and the kitchen was small and had not been renovated as far as we could tell. We found that no more than two or at most three people could work in the kitchen at one time. The old electric stove felt out-of-date. The stairs down to the dock were quite steep and the only railing was a double strand of rope, which was not adequate. The dock is a floating dock, which means it is not very stable and difficult to use for entry into a kayak or canoe. Due to the weather we didn't use the boats or dock, but I would have been quite leery of using it in the best of weather. Two of the bedrooms need real curtains to block out the sunlight, in the event one wants to sleep later than sunrise in the morning. The deck is quite nice and has a lovely view of redwoods and one can see the river as well.

"I'd stay somewhere else next time"

3 of 5

The house is quintessential "old river charm" The linens, pillows and comforters are Motel $69/night quality - stained, lumpy and old.Tired furnishings. The bbq worked great. The refrigerator door fell off its hinges. The master suite toilet's seat was cracked in half and the lights didn't work without having to go to the breaker panel and trouble shoot. All the floats for the house had holes and lost air. The access to the dock is extremely steep and getting in and out of the kayaks was very difficult. The canoe's backrest was broken and wouldn't stay up.If you are looking for a "river front" experience, look elsewhere. In my opinion, they charge too much for what you get. The main deck goes into full shade by 330pm so get your sun in early. The Management company was great and was very responsive. They did give me compensation to cover the hassles and inconveniences we had to deal with. For the money, the bed, pillows, sheets, comforters were way substandard. My advice to the seller is, go spend some money on new supplies. I didn't have problems with the internet, but my friend did on her laptop. The reason I did book this house was not much else was available and it was last minute. Also, on check in and check out, you have to go into town to the office for the key. Why don't they have key boxes?

Manager Response:

Hello!
Megan here - I took the calls and worked with this guest throughout her stay. In an unfortunate turn of events, the guests arrived on a day without an inspection so we didn't catch the broken toilet seat before they arrived as would usually happen. We did resolve everything communicated by the guests the very next day from the night of the call. A couple items we can't control - the floaties left behind by prior guests, personal computer settings for connecting to WiFi and when the shade hits the deck. I'm forwarding the review and comments to the owner. Thank you!

PS - The canoe was brand-spankin' new and just delivered that week! But the screws needed to be tightened for the seat.

"Big house, on the river, hot tub, internet."

5 of 5

This house rocked! We stayed Bella Ursula with basically three families: The traditional Mom/Dad plus child, a single Mom and child, and a single person (me). As you can tell from the web site; there are three big bedrooms. There is a room with two twin beds, a room with a king bed, and a room that is a suite with a queen bed and its own bathroom. There is also a couch was slept on but never folded out (and declared comfortable as such) as it was only used to escape snoring. We did bring a blow up bed, as for some reason one of the teenage children in our party preferred to sleep in the same room as his parents, rather than on the fold out couch....perhaps because his Mom, myself and the other Mom stayed up very late every night talking and laughing. Easier for him to go to bed with his Dad.This house was better than it looks on the website. You know how real estate ads make everything look bigger and brighter than the place actually is? Bella Ursula was the same size it looked on the internet and the deck was bigger. The river is right in the backyard (down a few steep steps) with a mini dock, a canoe and two kayaks. There were also plentiful inflatables and "noodles" to float around in the river with. The hot tub was the perfect size. Two adults can float all stretched out, or four adults can sit in it in a more civilized manner. Very nice gas grill on the back deck, on which we were cooked excellent meals by our professional chef/vacation co-resident.The house is configured so that people can hang out in different areas and/or the bedrooms without feeling crowded. I, being the single person, somehow won the king sized bed-bedroom all to myself. The room was directly off of the deck, but when I wanted to hide, I closed the sliding glass door and almost all noise was blocked. The king-sized bed is so king-sized that when I shared it with my platonic roommate who came to visit for one night, it was totally comfortable and not weird. The house is in a quiet neighborhood/street just outside of Guerneville. It's only a 5 minute drive to the Guerneville Safeway Grocery store. This means that there is no need to stock up on food or even go shopping before arriving at Bella Ursula. We had nothing but peace and quiet during our stay even though it was "Lazy Bear" weekend. Guerneville was hopping but we were chilling. The beach at Jenner and the entire coast is only a 20 minute drive. There were three downsides. Minor downsides that can be prepared for and therefore eliminate the issue. In the kingsized bed-bedroom the curtains are very thin. Sun is bright. Bring an eye-mask or prepare to rise with the dawn. Not really a problem...GO KAYAKING! HAVE FUN. YER ON VACATION! WHO NEEDS TO SLEEP! Two of our party could not get cell phone reception at the house; Two of us could. The house instructions said that there was a land line with unlimited nationwide calling. We never saw a phone, but we also didn't look for it. The internet worked great. Teenagers were skyping and facetiming with their friends. If you are a professional chef, or someone who cooks a lot, the knife selection is not great. There are knives, they work. We ate a lot of great food prepared with the mediocre knives. However if you are used to using a really nice sharp chef's knife...bring your own. Also, no cheese grater. We grated cheese with a potato peeler. We were laughing that It was like "Chopped" only with equipment rather than ingredients. But everything else is there. Coffeemaker, single cup drip coffee contraption, tea pot, all-clad pan for sauteing, big pots for pasta. toaster, mixing bowls, even a pressure cooker. Dishes are plentiful. Lots of glasses, silverware, spatulas, tea towels hot pads, wine openers... This is a really great house. Big, comfortable, nice deck, easy river access and lots of river toys. It's close to Guerneville but also feels secluded, I highly recommend Bella Ursula, and I believe all my co-vacationers would as well.

Manager Response:

Hello!
What a great review! You really captured the feel of the house and being on the river! I'm forwarding your "three" items to the owners so we can get them taken care of right away. Thank you again for sharing with future guests!

Everyone should know upfront - cell service is spotty/non-existent to good at the Russian River. Verizon has the best coverage. At&t is 2nd best, but it's not a close race. The geography makes it difficult even if the companies have towers in the area. The closer to downtown the home, the better the coverage as a rule of thumb.

"Awesome Escape"

5 of 5

We had a mini family reunion at Bella Ursula and could not be happier with our experience. My parents loved staying in the separate master suite. The views were pretty stunning and it was awesome being right on the River. The house was cozy and quaint with that rustic Guerneville vibe. We enjoyed BBQ on the deck, kayaking, soaking in the hot tub under the stars and fishing off the dock. My sister caught a fish! We had a wonderful three days on the river and would love to return next year.

"charming, comfortable house"

5 of 5

Feels like your grandma's cozy cabin! The furniture in the living room is old and squashy and the main tv is small, but we didn't notice because the place is set up to enjoy each others' company. We cooked every meal in the kitchen and had all the utensils and equipment we needed. House was stocked with some good books, the beds were very comfortable, and the hot tub worked perfectly -- just what we needed to relax. The master bedroom is by itself out back by the hot tub -- have to go outside to get there -- and the other two bedrooms (one queen bed and 2 twins) are inside. The house as a whole is clean, well maintained, and neatly decorated but not overstuffed -- a nice combination! Plus the wifi worked great; we've had trouble at other rental houses, but not this one. We had 5 people staying here during a wine tasting trip (one couple and 3 singles) and this was the perfect spot to spend our mornings and nights. It's not a luxurious or super-modern house, but it's comfortable, clean, and well-priced.It was also easy to pick up and drop off keys; we were driving up from the Bay area so didn't arrive until late, but there were no problems. The only complaint was that the front door lock was a little sticky and hard to turn - otherwise great place! Will be back!

"We all loved the home!"

5 of 5

My boyfriend and I hosted a weekend vacation with our close friends, and everyone in our party really enjoyed the home. It is very comfortable, nicely appointed and gave us the feeling of a real relaxing vacation. The kitchen was very well equipped, and the house had all of the amenities we value such as wifi, cable and many more. The location is also excellent and really beautiful views of the river. The staff is also very accommodating. We are planning to come back next year!

Manager Response:

Hello!

Thank you for the great review! We are glad you enjoyed your stay and the amenities! The view from the hot tub is fantastic too...

And we're always glad to help -

"Simply Wonderful"

5 of 5

I have to say that overall our stay was fantastic. This was for a work retreat. We rented this location and River Dream. Both were what we needed. The staff was extremely helpful at check in and check out and the entire process really. Everyone had a wonderful time and I am sure we will be back.

Manager Response:

Hello!
We are so happy to work with businesses, churches, and other groups for retreats! It's fun and you guys were great guests too! I'm glad to hear there are still fantastic work retreats!

"Comfortable but lacking in up-to-date amenities"

3 of 5

While the furnishings were adequate, we felt there was a lack of modern amenities. For example, the kitchen was fairly well equipped but there was a variance in quality of the equipment - All-Clad pots aside cheap thrift store pots, coffee maker didn't work, rusty blunt potato peeler, 30 year old electic stove and oven etc. It resembled the kitchen of a shared student house. The 25 year old "stereo" was basically un-useable in this day and age - where was the iPod sync or docking station that so many properties offer these days - and we couldn't find the barbeque utensils.All-in-all a comfortable stay but lacking the basic amenities we're used to and expect from a quality vacation rental.

Manager Response:

Hello!

Thank you for sharing your experience with us... I wish you'd let us know during your stay that the coffee maker wasn't working - we have a loaner in the office and could have gotten it out to you! We try to keep kitchen items up to date in all our homes, but it helps when folks let us know about specific items that are out-of-sorts. We can ask the cleaner to address those items specifically and the owner about replacement possibilities too.

We do list all the electronics and specific features in the amenities for each house so folks can look ahead (or call and ask) if there are items they want in a house. Bella Ursula is a fantastic home in that it is laid back and relaxed. We love it for the rustic feeling and simple, not-too-fancy or hard-to-figure-out furnishings and amenities. The stereo is visible in the photos online and is a CD player too and works just fine! I've even turned it on and used it...

"Wonderful weekend on the river!"

We had a lovely time at Bella Ursula. The house was comfortable and the deck was great for enjoying the fall air. There was enough room for everyone to eat, sleep, and be merry!

Manager Response:

Getting to the boat was a little tricky. The end of the path was steep and slippery with the step very high. You did not need keys to the boats only the combination. The house is very beautiful and clean.
