Join Russian Riverkeeper to clean up the Russian River Watershed!
The Cleanup will take place from Ukiah to Monte Rio and it’s also the same day as the California Coastal Cleanup. It’s easy to participate and we provide all the gloves, trash grabbers, and bags and volunteers will receive RRWCU T-Shirts and snacks. In addition to cleanup volunteers, we also need people to help with registration and a few others duties such as unloading trucks.
Registration is set up by check-in location where you'd like to participate. From each registration location, volunteers will be able to choose various beach walking routes based on where the trash is! At the registration you'll get your gear, volunteer T-shirt, snacks and meet up with your crew leader and we'll take a quick group shot and give everyone general instructions and then we'll get to cleaning up our River!
The 2019 RR Cleanup will continue to remove debris from the February flood events as well as the litter from beachgoers before the winter rains wash them to the ocean. We can’t save the ocean unless we stop sending our trash downstream. You can help us break that cycle! Together we can stop adding to the great Pacific Garbage Patch in the middle of the ocean (it's as big as Texas!).
We look forward to seeing you on September 21st for a cleaner Russian River and Pacific Ocean!
ABOUT THE ROUTES
Beach walking or wading routes will generally run till 11:30 am. Boat routes will be longer, finishing up roughly around 3:00 pm. There are a number of locations from Monte Rio to Ukiah and signups are set up for the amount of trash at each location. If you find your local beach is already full that means another beach upstream might need more help. If your local beach is clean or your preferred location is booked, please consider an alternate site. Remember: it all goes downstream and on to the ocean so no matter where you volunteer you are helping the entire watershed and ocean. We also need volunteers to help with registration and set-up in Cloverdale, Healdsburg and Guerneville.
Note: ALL boaters must be 18 or older and need to be strong swimmers and paddlers. Life jackets are required.
